Kari Lake makes calls to legislators in push for repeal of Arizona abortion ban she previously backed

Senate candidate Kari Lake has made calls to state lawmakers to push for the repeal of Arizona's Civil War-era abortion ban, according to a Republican legislator who spoke about receiving a call from her.

The GOP-controlled Legislature is considering its next steps after the state Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that the state's 1864 near-total ban on abortion is enforceable. The Arizona House convenes again Wednesday.

Lake's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday evening on her lobbying of state lawmakers.

Lake, who has said she opposes the court's ruling, is among the many Arizona Republicans who have scrambled to distance themselves from the 19th century statute, despite having previously voiced support for it. Democratic Senate candidate Ruben Gallego has highlighted Lake's earlier comments about the ban.

Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs, who has urged the Legislature to repeal the law, said Thursday that calling a special session would not be useful now because “the votes obviously are not there.”

Hobbs said she is in discussion with Republican lawmakers and leadership to repeal the ban but declined to name any legislators.

Republicans in Arizona hold slim majorities in both chambers — a 31-28 advantage in the House and a 16-14 seat advantage in the Senate.

No. I do. Let’s fight for pro life in an atmosphere of having been taken over by corruption from the Arizona elections where cheating for democrats is so out of control Kari lake the obvious governor favorite got pushed aside by powers beyond her control, and the media, the president, Hollywood, Trump and Lake hating Rinos, the entire McCain syndicate not to mention the cartels and all the idiots who insist on birth control lifestyles dependent on abortion will bowl it over and let drooling Biden have the state let him take the Whitney house again. There will be no country in which to practice principals

If you think the constitution and free will will win the day under a second Biden presidency then this presidential election in which the democrats have thrown this explosive this nuke is a perfect place to fight for pro life. I can’t see where the voters will come from. They won’t be swayed under this barrage of pro abortion rulers but ya perfect forum for an abortion fight.

Sorta like “If you try to get an abortion you’ll be arrested.”. Just saying there are options.

Pro-abortion rights amendments have been passed in even deeply red sates: Kansas, Ohio, Montana, and Kentucky.

The Party is running away from strong pro-life laws because it’s terrified of the being used as a turnout lever against GOP candidates.

Why do you think Donald Trump has criticized the Arizona law?

Punctuation is your friend. I got lost in clauses and phrases.

Could you sum up your position in two (short) sentences?

Aren’t women more likely to be pro-life than men?

Imagine how many black babies of former slaves were saved by this ban. Just sayin’.

Kari wants to be a winner. Nothing wrong with that.

See post 12. You’re not actually “winning” anything if you’re ultimately just conceding what you are supposedly even fighting for in the first place. This is just the first thing they want you to sacrifice in the supposed name of “winning” which isn’t guaranteed, anyway.

Her true colors are starting to show, at least to more people than they already were.

DeSantis wasn't for a total ban in FL. What are his true colors?

Kari just lost me.

I suspect that is exactly the result "Coronal" hoped for by posting this thread.

The retards who are going to sit out the election instead of voting for Lake are going to get abortion good and hard with the demoncrap Governor. They will also be getting squatters rights, EV mandates, forced faggotry for their children, higher taxes, and gun confiscation.

AZholes deserve it.

This presidential election is a perfect time to fight for pro life against people - the voting public- who want abortion. They want their birth control lifestyles which mandates legal abortion

This is a great time for Lake who was cheated out of the last election and whe was obviously the favorite Ymir is a perfect time for her to fight for prolife against hard headed uninformed, constitutionally ignorant people.

The obvious answer to that is, if we’re just going to throw out our principles, in order to win, then we’re not really winning anything.

Democrats have already had great success running on abortion in deep red, very pro-life states - their masterful marketing and media campaigns have gotten pro-life voters to vote for radical pro-abortion candidates and policies. Arizona is more marginal than some of these states. The Democrats have their template and a record of success - flush with cash, while the conservative side sits on their hands and keeps the wallets closed.

“Ya she needs to push for pro life during a presidential election in which democrats are using idiot voters who refuse to realize sex is for procreating and per natural law and God left to after marriage with a provider involved

“Then lose the state to democrats lose the presidential election then go back to whining about pro abortion majority and live the loser life pretending in a democrat run country you can kindly change hearts”

I’m going to call BS on people who fling around the “R” word (RINO) when they express contempt for Republicans who stray from the doctrinaire conservative position that we like, yet find ways of justifying divergence from the Good and Pure when we are in their camp. Lake and Trump have both taken shots at a state law which Republican legislators have supported. If their names were switched McConnell and Murkoswki they’d be villified and run out of town.

We are through the looking glass. We either get control of the levers of power, or we continue moving in the direction of fascism.

I no longer care about alleged hypocrisy or inconsistency regarding our candidates. The Democrats absolutely do not care about it, and nor should we.

Pointing out flaws in our candidates is only intended to diminish their chances of winning.

“Senate candidate Kari Lake has made calls to state lawmakers to push for the repeal of Arizona’s Civil War-era abortion ban...”

Disappointing to say the least.

I hope the state lawmakers stand firm and reject Kari Lake on this issue.

I assume you’re being facetious, but if you’re saying that True Conservatives need to be flexible to the point of straying from core tenets, that flies in the face of years of heckling certain Republicans for being RINOs.
