That's funny: Twentynine Palms is a gigantic, sand-filled frying pan that we use to train artillerymen and maneuver folks - and it's "infiltrated" by scores of people every day looking for scrap metal. We used to have to chase people off every day to make sure we didn't kill any idiots on their four wheelers. There aren't any fences or guards - the place is too big - and we don't test stuff there, so a Chinese spy would be underemployed.
We have had Marines die because they got left behind and couldn't make it to safety before the heat got them.
