There is no such thing as squatters “rights” imo, such rights just another example of desperate Democrats and RINOs dreaming up politically correct rights to effectively buy votes to stay in power.

Well, that's not true, because Adverse Possession i.e. squatter's rights goes back to the early Middle Ages. Now, they may have added, and they may practice it different today. See San Francisco.

I had a tenant at a property that I bought who, upon contacting him to arrange for rent payment, told me he ain’t paying me because he didn’t have a lease with me, and ain’t paying the former landlord because he didn’t own it any more, and it would take me six months to get him in eviction court.

My reaction, “Lock and load, a**hole, last one standing wins” set off a chain of events that did turn out in my favor, but only because I had taped the phone call where he admitted he wasn’t going to pay anyone rent.

In some places, the courts may give you a leeway if you were a tenant.

There seems to me to be a difference between occupation of vacant property where the "tenant" has taken steps to move in and is presenting LEOs with fake documents, and going to Disney for a week and coming home to find people in your house using your stuff.

In the former case, I can see LEOs saying, "look, go to court and get papers" and in the latter case, LEOs dragging the trespassers out into the street so you don't shoot them first.

Property can be vacant for a number of legitimate reasons nor is there any way of telling how long it’s been vacant for.

Besides, just cause it’s vacant at the moment, is NO excuse ever to steal it.

My sympathy to owners who rent out a property. My relatives had problems with their tenants who trashed the property out of spite after being legally evicted. Poop everywhere. My relatives decided to sell that house and never rely on rental income again. The new owners have been responsible neighbors for many years.

If I came home to find squatters inside the house I've lived in since 1964 I would force the back door open and send my dog in even though I would have a lot of cleanup to do.
