President Biden vowed Tuesday to rebuild Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge after it collapsed into the water when a cargo ship rammed into it, echoing what some Maryland officials said earlier but adding that he expects the federal government to foot the bill.
“It’s my intention that the federal government will pay for the entire cost of reconstructing that bridge, and I expect the Congress to support my effort,” Biden said in remarks at the White House. “This is going to take some time, but the people of Baltimore can count on us though to stick with them at every step of the way until the port is reopen and the bridge is rebuilt.”
He said he spoke with Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) on Tuesday morning, as well as Maryland officials including its congressional delegation and two U.S. senators. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg traveled to the Baltimore site.

That 45 day emergency rebuild just turned into 24 months now that booty boy is on the job.
That would be good. And it will take a long time to get anything moving along. It’s govt after all. So, I don’t see that as an issue. But, to say a bridge will be rebuilt is just expected talk after a disaster.
Even though I have zero faith it BitMe or Buttigieg ability to manage this competently, the bridge is part of US interstate system (I-695). Federal responsibility. The feds would have to fork over the money even if it was in a red state.

I have a great idea. They should mandate that the design engineer must be a lesbian woman of color, and all construction workers must identify as LGBTQIA+WTFIDKLMFAO, preferably BLM members.

President Biden reveals that he took the train over the Francis Scott Key Bridge “many times” during his commute even though the bridge didn’t have train tracks. Very impressive!
Biden, who appeared to be taking a train that didn’t need tracks to operate, said he remembers all the times he commuted on the bridge.
“At about 1:30, container ship struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which I’ve been over many, many times, commuting from the state of Delaware either on a train or by car.”
