I did. I still think it is a bunch of nonsense.
I think the article is trying to say NYC will get extra-crowded by eclipse-seekers flocking in (because NYC is in the eclipse path), and those big crowds will cause all the disruptions ... so I interpreted it wrong in my first response
But, why would people flock to crowded (and pricey) NYC to watch it?
The eclipse path is 2000 miles long and 100 miles wide, so there’s lots of other open, uncrowded, cheaper areas to watch it from
So, the “needless fear-mongering” part stands ...

The warnings to prep for April 8, appear to be for the stupidity of human behavior noted to be localized for the New York City area natives only.
