Sorry, I'm wrong again

The eclipse passes over New York State, but over Buffalo, not NYC

Still, lots of other areas to see it!

“The eclipse path is 2000 miles long and 100 miles wide, so there’s lots of other open, uncrowded, cheaper areas to watch it from”

Like someone from NYC or NJ is going to drive to Texas to view it!

It may be 100 miles wide but most of that is not a full eclipse.

Be prepared to offer sacrifices to the sun gods. That works every time...the sun always comes back.

Normally tourists stay away from dumps like Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse.

Most of them probably have no idea how hostile the natives are.

Why are we fascinated with eclipses? Yes, it’s cool to see but I certainly won’t go out of my way to see it. Besides, I thought they were more concerned with illegals?!

some regions experienced a 100 percent increase in their population in the days leading up to and during the eclipse.

Way down in the article, a semi-rational explanation.

Why are we fascinated with eclipses?

Some people enjoy watching (relatively) rare astronomical events. If you don't enjoy such things, you can simply go about your day as if they weren't happening.

It may not be over NYC, but if Latisha walks around, her ego may have the same effect.

When I was a kid, we had a total eclipse pass over our house

I still remember how, as it got darker approaching totality, the birds would start their “evening song” routine, thinking it was sunset ... then it was quiet for 1 minute of “night” ... then as it got brighter again, the birds started their “morning song” routine, thinking it was sunrise ... all this, in the middle of the afternoon

A special experience, and the combination of locality and good weather makes them hard to see ... go if you can!

I think the eclipse crosses over Maztalán. Given the choice to watch between Sinaloa & NYC... Mazatlán is safer.

I saw the concerns and they do not match up to many years when solar eclipses happened.

One thing is certain, this hoopla isn’t worth an argument. All over in less than a day. I am sure Joe and the DHS has it all under control:)

???? Exactly! What does a solar eclipse have to do with the grid?

I'm assuming the supposedly large number of eclipse tourists coming to the state to view the eclipse could cause heavier usage of the cell networks during the eclipse, which could lead to disruptions. NY is pretty much a nanny state at this point, though, so it could also be unnecessary hand-wringing by the dopey NY political class.

Well, you know, all the solar panels are going to shut down for 5 minutes.
