Maidwell Hall was an academically unremarkable school for the sons of the landed gentry. The headmaster enjoyed thrashing bare buttocks on the slightest pretext, but I enjoyed the sports and the setting was beautiful.
CS wasn’t a sporty kid. That’s why his memories are probably more focused on the loneliness and emotional neglect. His parents also divorced a few years before he went to Maidwell which didn’t help.
