Chinese chap charged with stealing Google’s AI datacenter secrets

……….. In December 2023, while Ding was in China and still employed by the American web giant, Google spotted him uploading more stolen documents to a Google Drive account, it is claimed. Ding told Google’s investigators he was just keeping evidence of his work – the sort of thing anyone would apparently do to back up their employment history.

He told Google he wasn’t planning to leave, agreed to delete the docs, and signed an affidavit affirming he had done so, according to prosecutors.

But, we're told, he didn’t disclose the other files he had uploaded, nor his affiliation with Rongshu or Zhisuan.

Then on December 26, he resigned.

Three days later, Google reviewed surveillance footage and saw Ding’s employee ID badge being used by another staffer, it is said. The search giant also learned of Ding’s investor pitches in his role as Zhisuan CEO.

On January 4, Ding’s laptop was frozen and his access to Google networks revoked.

The FBI soon investigated and used a warrant to find the 500 files Ding uploaded to the G-Cloud.

If I owned or managed a company with ANY sort of intellectual property of significant value....at risk of getting sued....I would not hire or let a Chinese national or first generation Chinese immigrant within 10 miles of said intellectual property...no matter how smart there are or how much potential value they could bring to the company.

No American company should be hiring Chinese or Indian workers. It is treason and results are always bad.

...no matter how smart...

Every time I hear that the Chinese are smarter than Americans I remember that they have to steal half a trillion $ Intellectual Property from the U.S. every year.

They literally have 4 times as many brains as the U.S. and can't even create their own IP.

“I would not hire or let a Chinese national or first generation Chinese immigrant within 10 miles of said intellectual property...”

And you would be promptly sued by the DOJ for not hiring foreigners a la Elon Musk.

I knew you weren’t saying they’re smarter. I’m just saying we’ve heard it all our lives.

Agreed...but then it just becomes a math problem.

What is the cost of going to court versus the cost of exposing vast amounts of intellectual property to potential thief’s for foreign state actors?

And if I lose in court...then its time to compartmentalize at a level that Coca Cola does to safeguard their recipe.
