As long as political parties (Which in reality are private organizations!) ask the state to pay for primaries you will see these ridiculous open primaries. The advantage for the party is they get the taxpayer to pay for the candidate selection process. Additionally, it gives the parties a chance to sabotage the other through crossover voting.

With Nikki bailing out, Republicans in remaining primary states should implement Operation Chaos 2024 and vote for Phillips in the Dim primary.
