Travel nurses are considered to be educated enough and have the clinical skills to work in any environment independently, thus the huge pay difference. They can travel because they’ve worked years in their specialty. When I traveled, I was better educated and trained than the nurses I worked with, as well as most of the doctors. Travel nurses also go where the money is, so they won’t be going to Iowa.

“When I traveled, I was better educated and trained than the nurses I worked with...”

I’m not doubting you. But the traveling nurses I saw looked to be maybe 25 years old. But I find at my age everyone looks like they’re still in high school. A lot may depend on how desperate the health facility is to get a position filled.

Before I spent time in treatment, I had no idea that travelers (sorry, I first think of ‘Irish travelers’ when I hear the term) were a thing. Now every nurse I encounter talks about it, so I guess it’s a pretty common thing.

As others have pointed out, legislation is not the answer.
