~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Pine Bluff Arsenal, Arkansas

ARpinebluff

The Pine Bluff Arsenal (PBA) is a US Army installation located in Jefferson County, Arkansas, just northwest of the city of Pine Bluff. PBA is one of nine Army installations in the United States that stored chemical weapons.

PBA supplies specialized production, storage, maintenance and distribution of readiness products, and delivers technical services to the Armed Forces and Homeland Security. PBA also designs, manufactures and refurbishes smoke, riot control, and incendiary munitions, as well as chemical/biological defense operations items.

It serves as a technology center for illuminating and infrared munitions and is also the only place in the Northern Hemisphere where white phosphorus munitions are filled. Its Homeland Security mission includes first-responder equipment training and surveillance of pre-positioned equipment.

Chemical Agent Identification Set (CAIS) Destruction: Another successful NSCMP mission at PBA included the Rapid Response System (RRS), a transportable treatment technology, which processed more than 5,300 CAIS items once stored at PBA.

The RRS began operations in August 2005, and completed processing in November 2006. For decades the arsenal stored chemical agent rockets (GB55's). During the 1980s, these were defueled and the warheads were destroyed. Mustard agent, VX, G and Sarin were stored in large bunkers on the premises.

Chemical weapons, a paper mill producing dioxin and the State Penitentiary - Pine Bluff, Arkansas!

In the mid-80s, when the wind was right, you could smell it in Little Rock, 45 miles away.

A very pleasant good Tuesday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country and thanks Lauren for this morning's thread.

Yesterday at Comanche Lake:

How's everyone doing this morning?

Enjoying open-windows weather?
Not quite that warm here but it was a nice day to be outside.

Hey there, radu!

It was quite amazing to have the doors open and the heater completely off all day. We just turned it back on about an hour ago. I actually braced myself when I stepped out this morning to feed the kitties, and to my surprise, it was 20 degrees warmer than the same time yesterday. Crazy!

I’m glad it was also nice there. Cooler than the nearly 80 we had, but still way better than you’ve been having to deal with. Will it stay warmer this week?

Nearly 80??? UGH! Way too soon for that! That’s borderline for turning on the A/C. LOL

It got close to 60 here and was sunny so it was pleasant for getting out this afternoon. Had the dr. appointment, then ran some errands afterwards. It was after 5 when I got home and starting to cool off quickly by then.
Yes, it’s going to be pretty nice this week with several days in the 60s though we’ll get some rain Thursday. They SAY we’ll hit 70 next Monday but we’ll see how that goes.

I hope the trees don’t start putting out buds. I thoroughly enjoy these warm spells but it rough on the plant life when it gets cold again .... and it will.

Indeed, we have had the new growth killed by late freezes. Some never recover. If only the weeds would die. They are about to take over here. You’d think it was June. Wednesday when it gets up to 85, we’ll totally think it’s June. *sigh*

Sounds like the perfect day there. Did you have the chance to open your windows, or were you gone too long for that. Hope you got a good report from the doc.

I saw your post from last night this morning, and I’m happy with you that your sister is doing so well after what she’s been through. I hope she continues to improve!

P S...I’m going to finish this show and head out. I just realized it’ll be after 3 when it finishes. But I must say, I rested good last night. Slept till noon. It was wonderful! See ya tomorrow! :)

Yep, we’ve had some tree damage in the past due to early warm-ups, then BAM! Freezes and frosts. And from late freezes and frosts. My pear trees had no pears last year due to a late freeze killing the blossoms.

I iknda want it to get cold again and stay that way a while. The grass is growing too fast right now. LOL

No, it was a little too cool to open any windows today. Didn’t quite make it to 60. But it was nice enough to enjoy getting out.

Everything checked out with the “wellness check” this afternoon but I won’t know the blood test results for a week or so.

It really is amazing how well my sister has recovered. She’ll never be 100% and will need the walker or a cane for the rest of her life but she can walk. There was a big “?” about that right after the crash. She’s a lucky gal.
