Call Rep. Tom McClintock and Urge to Vote to Impeach Mayorkas (202) 225-2511 (vanity)

Posted on 02/13/2024 10:39:20 AM PST by willk

Please call him and urge him to vote yes on impeaching Mayorkas. Tom, who normally votes very conservative, voted against impeachment last week because he did not feel there was sufficient evidence to warrant impeachment. "Secretary Mayorkas is guilty of maladministration of our immigration laws on a cosmic scale. But we KNOW that’s not grounds for impeachment, because the American Founders specifically rejected it. They didn’t want political disputes to become impeachments, because that would shatter the separation of powers that vests the enforcement of the laws with the President – no matter how bad a job he does. Cabinet secretaries can’t serve two masters. They can be impeached for committing a crime relating to their office, but not for carrying out presidential policy. The border crisis can’t be fixed by replacing one left-wing official with another. It can only be fixed by the American people at the ballot box by replacing this administration with one committed to securing our borders, defending our country, and upholding the rule of law. Americans are already coming to that conclusion. And I’m afraid that stunts like this don’t help."

His # is (202) 225-2511

He's not wrong on this.

This statement by McClintock is the classic “Electionism” of the BoomerCons.

Instead of changes in institutional leadership which would actually matter, he favours futile election “wins” which don’t change the institutions and they continue to behave as they always have.

Which also has the effect of serving his donors’ preferences, which is cheap labor and open borders.

The point that McClintock is missing is that impeachment is an indictment, not a conviction.

Mayorkass has about a zero chance of conviction in the Senate. BUT, what he and the administration have been doing will come to light. Then the Senate can go on record as to whether they think it’s his fault or someone else.

That is certainly proper grounds for impeachment. What are the proper grounds, anyway? It’s whatever the House says they are. Benjamin Franklin even once remarked that a president can be impeached if he “rendered himself obnoxious”. And given that Franklin was a Founder, his opinions should have weight.

The “separation of powers” argument is also false. The Constitution is full of checks and balances. One check on the president (or any federal official) is the impeachment process.

Impeaching Mayorkas is a useful measure. Letting him off says that ending the USA in favor of a borderless open zone is no big deal.

McClintock’s votes on various issues over time have indicated to me that he does not care what the average Trump voter thinks! Therefore, he’ll no longer get any support from me!
