House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) is rejecting the idea that Democrats played dirty during this week’s failed GOP effort to impeach the Homeland Security secretary, arguing that Republican leaders control the floor — and are solely accountable for the management of it.
“It’s not our responsibility to let House Republicans know which members will or will not be present on the House floor on any other day or in connection with any given vote,” Jeffries told reporters Wednesday in the Capitol.

Well played.
Maybe this Sunday, the Chiefs will tell the 49ers their next play.
Jeffries is right. And this is example number 100,000 why the Republican Party is no longer the Grand Old Party. It is now the Stupid Party.
Had the situation been reversed, you can be sure Pelosi would not have been embarrassed. She would have shrewdly and ruthlessly won the day.
So Jeffries lied to Johnson all morning, and then wheelchaired in Greene from Texas who was supposed to be in the hospital.
Hope his deception was worth it. He spent all his trust with Johnson.
Moslem liar.
Like that matters.
Was it even really Greene? I have my doubts.
There might not be a Constitutional, or procedural requirement to keep the opposition updated on which Members will show up to vote.
This demonstrates that the illegal border invasion is one of the highest, if not the highest, priority on the Democrats agenda.
Why would this be wrong?
And besides, R’s should have known that D’s will do, literally, anything to protect open borders.
So doing something that is just tricky, but not wrong, should surprise noone because if they had to, D’s would violate every law of God and man to protect their power and open borders.
All’s Fair in War and Politics.
Stupid naive Repukes.
and the RINOs that voted with that FPOS???
If the House Speaker was so invested in this vote, why did House Republicans vote against the impeachment?
Very simple. Stop treating Democrats as though they are honorable men.
GOP knew this that’s why they allowed the vote.
There isn’t and shouldn’t be. But Jeffries ran a scam on speaker Johnson. So day long implied that Greene wouldn’t be there…. as he is waiting in some nearby office ready to roll out. So he outed himself as a liar. That’s a notch above pulling the fire alarm.
He might need his word to mean something at some point with Johnson. Note he’s played that card.
Hope it was with it to save Mayorkas.
If winning that vote was so important to the Speaker and GOP, why did the Speaker allow four Republican members to vote against impeachment?
Is that the method? Wheelchair a “absent democrat” to change the number of votes needed on the floor so an impeachment measure against democrats that was supported by repubbies can’t pass?
The Republican "leadership" wanted this vote to fail, without any doubt whatsoever. And so it did, and it would have regardless of the circumstances.
The only thing to be mad about, perhaps, is that if the crippled old liberal racist from Houston hadn't been wheeled in, then maybe Gallagher wouldn't have had to cast the deciding vote to tank the thing, and his political career wouldn't have ended so abruptly. He showed his true colors, so good riddance to him anyway. His departure might open the door for a true conservative to take that seat.
