The views, if any, of the Mayor on this matter are irrelevant, since the Mayor has no operational authority over the Metropolitan Police.
I believe it was in 2012 that the Mayor became responsible for the Metropolitan Police’s priorities and performance. Operational matters remained the responsibility of the Commissioner. But if you believe that in setting the priorities for the police that the Mayor has no say on what will and will not be emphasized by the Commissioner then I believe you are pretty naive and you and I will just have to disagree.
