Besides being stupid, the move is kind of pointless. Let’s say they rename the Baltimore Oriole to the Eastern Oriole. The first sentence in the bird’s description will read, “The Eastern Oriole, formerly called the Baltimore Oriole...”, so the original name will live on forever.
