Biden Threatens to Veto Israel Aid Bill
Hotair ^ | 10/31/2023 | Jazz Shaw

When Mike Johnson took the Speaker’s gavel, he set forth a list of priorities that seemed fairly straightforward. Among the first items on his list was passing an aid package for Israel while finding ways to reduce spending. He quickly moved to make good on that, working with the GOP majority to draw up a bill that would send $14.3 billion to Israel while rolling back the budget for the IRS. The ink wasn’t even dry on the proposal before Democrats and their faithful media stenographers began blasting Johnson, accusing him of “politicizing” the proposed aid package. And Joe Biden has already threatened to veto the bill if it somehow makes it out of the House and Senate. (NBC News)

The Israel aid package, which includes proposed cuts to President Joe Biden’s signature Inflation Reduction Act, has not been well received by Democrats. They “are already blasting newly minted Speaker Johnson for politicizing a bipartisan cause,” NBC News Correspondent Sahil Kapur reports.

House Democrats on the Appropriations Committee published a statement of their own in response. They hilariously titled it, “House Republicans Delay Support for Israel.” What is not explained in the scolding missive is how the people who just drafted a proposal to send Israel more money than they even asked for are “delaying support” for them.

They go on to remind Republicans that the support of both parties in both chambers will be required for any proposed legislation to pass into law. (Ya think?) They further claim that the Democrats are “ready to work with House Republicans on a package that could quickly be signed into law.” But they’re obviously only talking about a package that they create, addressing their priorities and doing nothing to curb runaway spending.

The game being played by the Democrats is beyond obvious. They’re willing to pass some aid for Israel, but they want it lashed to “humanitarian aid” for Gaza and another huge slug of cash for Ukraine. They are frightened of attaching their names to separate bills because they know how increasingly unpopular some of their ideas are with the American public.

The Democrats also don’t want to cooperate on anything that might reduce or at least freeze spending. That includes cuts to the budget of the IRS. After all, we wouldn’t want them to run short of money to cover travel vouchers so they can drive around and harass blameless taxpayers while using fake names. Perish the thought.

Our crushing national debt is hanging over the collective neck of the nation like the sword of Damocles. The public is increasingly aware of and nervous about this, though it still doesn’t register in polls as a top priority for voters. But with better educational campaigns, they will soon be aware that these chickens are very quickly coming home to roost and it’s going to lead to cuts in popular social programs, including Medicare. By that point, it will be too late. The Democrats could actually do themselves a big favor by signing on to some of these cuts and explaining to their own voters that the gravy train was never going to last forever in its current form.

Even with a Speaker in place, if these jokers can’t even manage to pass a comparatively minor aid bill for Israel while they’re in the middle of a war with terrorists, how do they plan to push through a major spending bill to keep the government open? Someone needs to Remind Hakeem Jeffries and his pals of the same thing they’ve been telling the GOP for several years now. Elections have consequences. While it was close, you lost the midterms and now you have to play ball with the other guys for a while if you want to get anything done.

“Biden and the Senate will end up caving even if they get Johnson and the House to remove the off-setting IRS cuts.”

If Johnson and the Republicans show true resolve and refuse any conference on a “bipartisan Senate bill”, they may not have to give up the offsets.

This is the first play of the first quarter, it’s imperative to project strength.

Funny, isn’t it? Everyone seems to FORGET about the FIRST attempt on the Towers on Clinton’s watch.

Wonder why that was?

They put up a clean bill to aid Israel.

Is it a "clean bill" if it ALSO calls for cuts in a completely different area of spending?

Different people seem to have different definitions of "clean bill".

Not that I'm opposed to yanking the 87,000 IRS agents, mind you. ;-)

...will the Freedom Caucus blame him for this failure and move to vacate his Speakership?

I doubt that very much.

Failure to pass a bill to aid Israel will permanently alienate most of the Jewish support in the Democrat party. That is a good thing for Republicans.

Likewise, a failure to rein in the IRS with a substantial budget cut may alienate most people in the upper-middle class income brackets, who should realize by now, that the IRS is about to eviscerate them with new tax rulings.

"Upper middle class" BTW is an income of $120,000 to $400,000 per year. That is who the newly armed agents of the IRS will go after because that is where the money is. And that is the sweet spot where the victims cannot afford the pricey lawyers who can fend off the IRS.

Anybody paying attention knows that the government is lying when they say "This will only affect people making more than $400,000 a year".

Good for the Republicans, bad for the Democrats if Biden vetoes this bill.

Good for the Republicans, bad for the Democrats if Biden lets this bill pass.

It is a winning combination either way.

I agree with you. This isn't a "clean bill" with a single topic. But I like it anyway, because it screws over the IRS. They richly deserve a beating.

I would be in favor of that measure even if it were a single-topic bill of its own.

And this sort of thing is what the Democrats have always done to Republicans. Payback is a bitch, isn't it.

The loss of the bill to a veto isn’t about getting the bill passed. It is about forcing the hand of the Senate and Executive to defend their actions. The senate has already said the bill is DOA. If Johnson holds the line, and the House bill killed coming into the senate, or even the minuscule chance it’s passed off to Biden to veto, the Dems have to defend their actions coming into election season.

It’s a PR win for the GOP. Johnson is handing a win to the GOP if they actually decide to hold the line.

That isn’t what this move is about. It’s about fiscal responsibility. To pay for one, you have to take from another place. Or are you cool with irresponsible printing of dollars which have no backing?

I’m against giving any foreign nation any support while we still have problems of our own here. But this is a hot button topic that will shine a huge spotlight on just how fiscally irresponsible our government is acting with our tax dollars.

Biden and too many Democrats are always willing to sell out their allies and friends for leftist votes and twisted media coverage.

All I can say is the Democrat President and Party has lost the mainstream Jewish vote of the Roosevelt era. It was to be expected if you understood what has been going on for the past three decades inside it. Clue - the Marxists, KAPOS (Jews who aided the NAzis, now Marxists), and Black Marxists, anti-semites, and nationalist racists, have taken it over from the Henry Jackson Democrats of old.

I was a Democrat until I saw their betrayal of our fight against communist aggression in S.E. Asia, as a journalist in both SVN and Cambodia, where we were winning.

Now I’m seeing it all over again with the Omars, Tlaibs, Bookers, Ayalas, Payapals, and others in Congress are selling out our friends an allies, again. Afghanistan comes to mind. Cuba always has been sold out. The same for Nicaragua, Venezuela, Brazil, etc.

And always Israel.

The Biden Administration has the most Red Diaper Babies in key positions at the Cabinet level and administrative levels, plus at the State Department, since the Roosevelt days, and their treason is blatant.

As the originator of this massive MARXIST influx into the leadership of the Biden Administration and Treason/Crime Family, Barack Obama once said “Yes I did”.

Indeed he did!

We have found the enemy and he is some of us, inside the gate of America, along with their massive illegal border crossing future foot soldiers.

None dare call it treason, but I will!

PS: I’ve worked on both Organized Crime and Terrorism trial prep federal cases and recognize both deeply embedded in the Democrat Party.

Ignore this at your peril because we will be hit again, and not in just one place. Think 9/11 x 10.

I dont think we should be giving any foreign government “support” under any circumstances whatsoever.

Any all “support” is stolen and/or used to enrich the elites of that particular country plus our own elites in the “defense industry.”
