JACKSON, Miss. — Seven months of searching for her lost son brought Bettersten Wade to a dirt road leading into the woods, past an empty horse stable and a scrapyard.
The last time she’d seen her middle child, Dexter Wade, 37, was on the night of March 5, as he left home with a friend. She reported him missing, and Jackson police told her they’d been unable to find him, she said.
It wasn’t until 172 excruciating days after his disappearance that Bettersten learned the truth: Dexter had been killed less than an hour after he’d left home, struck by a Jackson police car as he crossed a nearby interstate highway. Police had known Dexter’s name, and hers, but failed to contact her, instead letting his body go unclaimed for months in the county morgue.
Now it was early October, and Bettersten had finally been told where she could find her son.

According to the article, police say they called to inform her he was dead.
“Elliott said he called the number listed for Bettersten in the facility’s records and left a voicemail but got no response.”
March 5, 2019 was a Tuesday.
Cuz they’re so busy that they can’t make an in-person appearance to tell someone that a family member is dead. I don’t know what policy is but there can’t be so many people that the police have to report dead that they cannot do it in person.

I would guess they were trying to run out the time in which she had to file a lawsuit. Just a guess.
You might find what I discovered in Post #8 to be interesting.
Oh, there was a coverup, I’m not disagreeing with that. I just think that they were covering up the collision, not necessarily because the cop was doing something wrong. I think they were just screwing around with the family that sued them.
I don’t think this event can be blamed on “bureaucracy”. Here’s a few facts:
1. Jackson, Miss. population 143,000
2. Current Police chief Joseph Wade (black)
3. Previous Police chief James Davis (black)
4. 70% of force estimated to be black
5. Mayor: Chockwe Lumumba (black)
6. Poverty rate: 26.1%
7. Homicide rate: 14 times national rate
8. Average Income: $56,851
Most likely, James Davis, the apparent Police Chief at the time of Dexter Wades death, just didn’t GAF about 1 more black person dying from contact with HIS police department.
A “normal” human being would have got off his ass, set all other matters aside for a few minutes, and informed the family at least before burial in a paupers grave.
A “normal” and “caring” police chief would have got in his car and drove over to Dexter Wade’s mothers house and informed her. That’s not too much to ask.....in my opinion.

Jackson PD is as corrupt as you can get. The mayor and council are full on Marxists.
My brother owned a cab company.
One of his drivers was struck and killed while standing outside of his parked cab collecting his fare from a drunk person he had driven home.
A state cop, speeding, slammed into the driver and killed him.
The state impounded the cab.
My brother claimed the body and shipped it, at his own expense, to the driver’s muslim parents in Michigan, in order that the victim could be buried the same day per islamic law (my brother is a Christian) .
The cops never released the cab to my brother, and so he could never collect on the insurance.
The cop who killed the driver and financially devastated my brother was never charged with anything.
The media NEVER mentioned the story in any way.
REAL STORY.
I am from the South and the Jackson Police are and have been a joke for decades.
Ask the NBC reporter to inquire about the missing “friend” he left is home with. Seems odd that, after half a year, he remains unidentified and unlocated.

I would agree that crossing an Interstate is a bad idea. Which is why it is important to note that the first report from the scene said:
1. The victim was a woman
2. The death took place on a frontage road
3. There was no mention of a police cruiser
4. There was no mention of an off-duty cop being involved
So the JPD called it a hit-and-run by some unknown driver all while they knew it was one of their own.
I’d fathom a guess that the cop was drunk and politically connected thus the coverup.
uh huh... but the incident with Dexter happened this year.
Not in 2019. Her brother was killed in custody in 2019.
March 5th, 2023 was a Sunday.
If I’m missing something, you’re going to have to point it out because I’m not seeing it.
