Attorney General Jeff Landry has been elected as the Governor of Louisiana. With Governor John Bel Edwards, the only Democratic governor in the South, limited to two terms, Republicans have successfully seized the opportunity to reclaim the governor’s mansion.
Louisiana’s unique open primary system allows a candidate to win outright if they secure a majority of the primary vote, the New York Times reported.
Landry did just that, capturing an impressive 52% of the vote and avoiding a runoff election. Had the race gone to a runoff, Landry could have faced off against another Republican or the leading Democrat, Shawn Wilson, a former state transportation secretary.

Fantastico!! I hope.
good. true tea party candidate wins.
There are still plenty of car trunks and file cabinets in abandoned buildings that can be checked for surprise ballots.
Does Louisiana require 7-10 more days of secretive vote counting to conclude the election?
In THEORY, this is a bad sign for the dems for future elections. Of course, it only applies to FAIR elections.
Another Trump endorsement wins.
At this point they got one precinct in Democrat New Orleans but the rest outstanding are Republican ones.
3912 of 3929 precincts
Jeff Landry 51.49 percent.
I don’t think they can push it below 50 percent with the ones left to report.
It’s starting to look more and more like the Demented WH Pedophile is going to have to steal 2024 too. This time his ass will have the Palistinian “refugee” voters.
The Democrats can go to court to win. No one will mind.
If Republicans try that, all hell breaks loose.
Trump-endorsed back in May.
Excellent!
Can’t put it past them they are relentlessly going to court to change the congressional districts for 2024.
Very good conservative. He is the current attorney general. He got my vote. The only thing disappointing is voter turnout was only 35%. You would think the turnout would have been much higher.
I am glad that he won, but LA is in the South. Their current Democrat Governor Edwards only won, because his opponent was David Vitter, who had the prostitution scandal and was an ex-senator. It doesn’t mean 2024 is going red.
Big win!
In the last of the polling that included all candidates-
mason dixon had him leading but only 40%
trafalgar same but only at 38%
both fr a month ago.
52% is a big win.
good point. yes he’s been very good. one of our few tea party candidates who has panned out. funding him for more than a decade now. i guess our guy got lucky with low turn out from them.
The last precinct in Orleans finally reported, and Landry still has 51.49%. The only remaining precincts are in two parishes where he has received a massive majority of votes cast, so I think it’s a done deal!
The Governor’s race is over.
Turnout in Orleans Parish cratered compared to 4 years ago.
Shawn Wilson, the Democrat candidate got 35% of the vote in Caddo Parish (Shreveport), 43% in East Baton Rouge (Baton Rouge), and 71% in Orleans Parish (New Orleans). These are horrible numbers for the Democrats.
The GOP will gain one seat in the State Senate and at least one seat in the State House (4 seats will be decided by runoffs next month) to expand the party’s super majorities in both chambers of the Legislature.
The Louisiana State Democratic Party is in shambles right now.
