Kevin McCarthy Signals Support for Jim Jordan, as House Recess Pushes Speaker Vote to Next Week
Red State ^ | 10/14/23 | Becca Lower

Posted on 10/14/2023 5:13:50 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is now signaling that he supports Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) as the next Speaker of the House. As we reported just under two weeks ago, McCarthy was ousted by House members in a Motion to Vacate by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL). As my colleague, Ward Clark wrote on Friday, Jordan defeated Rep. Austin Scott (R-GA) to secure the nomination:

In an earlier vote, Speaker candidate and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) won the nomination but then failed to secure enough votes to guarantee a majority on the House floor, ultimately resulting in his decision to withdraw from the race.

Jordan won the vote against Scott by a margin of 124-81, meaning that not all lawmakers were present for the vote. [...]

....[T]he House of Representatives has adjourned; no further votes will be taken today. As of this writing, the final vote has not been scheduled.

McCarthy's words of support for Jordan came during an interview on the “Cats and Cosby” radio show with host John Catsimatidis.

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy will support House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan for Speaker: "Jim was a great ally to me." https://t.co/bwwfbpIbd5 pic.twitter.com/jfItE7nSEn— The Hill (@thehill) October 14, 2023

He said that he "support[s] Jim Jordan fully, Jim was a great ally to me. He worked hard. We came into Congress together." McCarthy looked toward the vote next week, noting that 65 votes are still needed for Jordan to cross the 217 threshold:

We’ve got some people not there yet. We just get together, work a little longer and we can have a new Speaker in Jim Jordan next week.

The report on his comments mentioned that he shared some shorthand on what the secret ballot voting can be compared to:

The former Speaker referenced Friday’s secret ballot vote, calling it what the public “would think is the primary … inside the conference.”

In the wake of McCarthy yielding the Speaker's gavel, Jordan received the endorsement of former President Donald Trump.

We'll keep you posted on when a vote for Speaker is scheduled in the coming days.

“well-considered analysis.”

How about this analysis?

McCarthy made a deal with the dems during the first vote last year.
That enabled him to make promises to the Freedom caucus that he never intended to keep.
Like ... no more crs.
Regular order etc...
He believed that WHEN not if the motion to vacate was made the dems would give him the few votes he needed to keep the chair.
But ... the dems hung him out .. it's just who they are.
Perhaps his eyes are starting to open.
He may see Jim Jordan as a way toward a little pay back.
Could it be?

That’s what he will be within 2 months if elected Speaker.

I want to read that rejector’s personal preference for the Speakership AND WHY.

Good luck getting that from the never-happy foot stompers

There’s a fair amount that don’t want the House to even operate - don’t fill the position. Shutdown the government.

That’s an ignorant position. There would be no way to fund critical military needs if they became necessary and the like.

Such people are “burners”. They want to burn it all down. They’re no better than the Libs.

He needs the moderate Republicans, i.e. actually Democrats, to vote for him. The Freedom Caucus and other Conservatives are already on board.

Yes how dare Matt Gaetz try to hold McCarthy to his promises that he made to the conservative caucus. 🙄

Matt Gaetz had a tiny gang of 8 fellow GOP and 100% of the Democrats vote to remove the GOP Speaker of the House. Matt Gaetz proudly ran with the Democrats to achieve his coup.

Today we have thousands of military in the Middle East hot zone, and no Speaker of the House. You appear to be joyous about Matt Gaetz winning a coup, with little regard for the situation in the Middle East.

You need to keep up. Donald Trump is orchestrating the placement of Jim Jordan into the House speakership. Do you think for one minute a conservative could normally ever get 217 votes? The answer is no! The majority of the GOP reps are always moderates. They won’t vote for a conservative Speaker. Hence Kevin McCarthy getting elected.

In the normal course of events Scalise would easily have been elected to succeed McCarthy. Suddenly out of nowhere MTG is in front of the cameras everyday seemingly running the show and deep sixing Scalise with we need to let Steve heal from cancer. Then Jim Jordan who couldn’t get 10 votes in January is suddenly being brought forward in closed door conference and next thing you know Kevin McCarthy is incredibly endorsing him and it looks like Jordan is actually going to be speaker. Which is an event to rival the second coming. Can you even imagine some of the phone calls that moderates have received in the past few days to make them vote for Jim Jordan? Not to mention who had a chat with McCarthy.

Matt Gaetz has been doing Trump’s bidding since they boxed McCarthy in last January to the new vacate rule. that was just the first installment of what is happening now and what is to come in the next 5-6 months.

You need to let yourself go up to the 40,000 ft level of consciousness and see the big picture and quit worrying about the speaker ship chair being vacant for a few weeks.

Here’s an example of why so many Conservatives, myself included, DESPISE the GOP, will not contribute a penny to any of its campaign funding organizations, and pray everyday for its permanent demise!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Doubts continue to surround the feasibility of electing Jordan to the post after 55 Republicans indicated on a secret ballot that they would not vote for the Ohio lawmaker on the House floor if he were nominated for speaker.

Fifty-five leftist rats posturing as Republicans! SPIT!

As noted previously, you appear joyous about Matt Gaetz winning a coup, with little regard for the dangerous situation in the Middle East where thousands of U.S. sailors and pilots are deployed, with more on the way.

“Fifty-five leftist rats posturing as Republicans!”

They’re no more RINOs than the 8 who broke the McCarthy speakership. And if the 8 WEREN’T RINO’s then that means that 94% of the caucus IS RINOs. But if 94% of a group call themselves Republicans maybe that means they’re not Republicans in name only. Just a thought.) This caucus has highlighted the individual over the collective ever since the insane motion-to-vacate self-destruct switch was institutionalized. (Actually, from even before the 15th ballot that installed McCarthy, the fact that the caucus elevated the right of any one individual to blow up the speakership was an invitation to mayhem.)

It didn’t end with McCarthy, it didn’t end with Scalise, and it won’t end with Jordan.

My prediction: the Mike Rogers et al. will turn to the Democrats to form a power sharing regime, which sounds awful except for the fact that Republicans have demonstrated their inability to govern alone.
