BREAKING: President Trump Clears The Air About A Potential Run For Speaker
DC Enquirer ^ | 10.04.2023 | Sterling Mosley

Posted on 10/04/2023 11:09:49 AM PDT by SoConPubbie

On Wednesday, leading Republican presidential candidate and 45th President Donald Trump spoke about the prospect of him potentially becoming speaker of the House after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and his allies ousted Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from the role for the first time in American history.

Trump, who is currently sitting in court for his New York fraud case, spoke to reporters outside of the courtroom where he agreed that he could step in to help the Republican Party if needed. The speaker of the House does not need to be a sitting representative in order to serve.

"A lot of people have been calling me about speaker. All I can say is that we will do what is best for the country and for the Republican Party," he said. "We have some great, great people."

When asked if he would take the job, Trump responded, "A lot of people have asked me about it. Look, I'm focused and I'm leading by 50 points for president. My focus is totally on that. If I can help them during the process, I would do it. But we have some great people in the Republican Party."

Trump has been nominated to be speaker by a number of GOP members including Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) who wrote, "Kevin McCarthy will NOT be running again as Speaker. I nominate Donald J. Trump for Speaker of the House."

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has also come out in support of President Trump, writing, "I’m supporting President Donald J. Trump to be the next Speaker of the House! He has a proven four-year record of putting America First and implementing the policies the American people want. President Trump is the man for the job!"

While some members have seen Trump as a potential alternative to a current House member, a number of names have begun circulating to take the gavel.

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Rep. Jim Jordan, the current chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, announced that he would be pursuing the speakership following Rep. Kevin McCarthy's (R-CA) ouster from the post by eight Republican rebels led by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).

Jordan, who is a member of the Freedom Caucus, told reporters that he would be running for the leadership post as multiple members consider the position, particularly Majority Leader Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA).

Jordan spoke in favor of Speaker McCarthy during the vote to vacate the chair and is seen as a strong McCarthy ally while simultaneously being a strong conservative.

The Freedom Caucus member has already seen some support from his GOP colleagues while others have yet to make their allegiances clear including conservative stalwart Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) who said, "Jim is a friend, and I certainly think he brings a whole lot that this conference would be able to rally around, but we've got to all have a conversation and I'm not going to say who I'm supporting at this point. We're going to figure this out behind closed doors as a family."

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) has already come out in support of a potential Speaker Jordan, writing on X/Twitter, "I support Jim Jordan for Speaker."

Matt Gaetz also motioned that he would support Jordan in his attempt to get the gavel, writing, "My mentor Jim Jordan would be great!"

While it is unlikely that President Trump will be the next speaker of the House, his influence will play a strong role in determining who will lead the lower chamber.

Pres. Trump is an executive, not a legislator. He was one of my first thoughts, too, but his strength in governance is in leading and in executing laws, not in herding cats.

I think it would be even more interesting to nominate Candace Owens and watch the Democrats struggle over having to attack two of their favorite demographic groups. Just a fun thought not based in reality.

We don’t need a “friend” as Speaker, we need a bare knuckles fighter who will crush this insanity.

He supported McCarthy last time. If he does endorse someone, let’s hope that he chooses more wisely now that he’s had more time to learn about those in Congress.

If Trump took the role, he would be the figure head. someone else would do the real work.

Everyone wants to see Trump sitting behind biden during a state of the union address.

It would be nice to see trump be third in line for the presidency as speaker.

I see one very long shot scenario Trump becomes speaker. Harris suffers an unfortunate accident or debilitation that removes her from office. GOP house refuses to confirm vp in her place. Brandon then collapses in public and dies. Probably would require divine intervention for it to happen.

If democrats where smart they was all vote for him, then when he gets in, have P and VP resign, then DT is President and cannot run and serve a third term.

Amendment 22:

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. …

A President can serve two full terms in addition to two years of a term of somebody else.

My initial thought is as Trump says, he is focused on 2024. Being speaker of the house may be good for him by giving him a pulpit to MAGA right away. But it may also be distracted by or a distraction to his 2024 campaign.

Curious what others think. If asked to be speaker, would this help him or hurt him in 2024?

Jorden would be good. But Trump just because it would make the collective left spaz, $h!t and p!$$ all at once.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Exactly right , we want as many of them as possible doint that in the streets, havuing their primal screams , protesting, looting doing arson....while the cops stand down.

America wants these leftists gone, and this reaction you describe would assure it, and would assure the electionof President Trump, regardless of the law suits, defamatory press, and other lefty torpedoes.

Trump as Speaker would be a master stroke. The ARt of the Deal would see huge progress for the Freedom Caucus, for MAGA and for the country as a whole.Defunding the FBI, Defuning the Dept of Education, Defunding the EPA, and closing the border / building the war or else? Its coming to town if Trump takes the Speakers Chair.BUt he has to get the votes.

The Dems have it coming.
