Alabama Has a Horrible New Way of Killing People on Death Row
The New York Times ^ | September 18, 2023 | By Bernard E. Harcourt

After botching a series of executions by lethal injection, the State of Alabama is planning to use nitrogen gas to put condemned prisoners to death. The first execution will amount to a human experiment, because neither Alabama nor any other state has ever tried to kill people this way.

Late last month, prison guards distributed the state’s new execution protocol to prisoners in solitary confinement on Alabama’s death row. One hundred and sixty men and five women await execution in Alabama. They would be secured to a gurney, their nose and mouth would be covered by a mask, and nitrogen would be pumped into their lungs until they suffocate.

Alabama is seeking to conduct the first such experiment on Kenneth Eugene Smith, who already survived a botched execution. Last November, Mr. Smith spent hours strapped to a lethal-injection gurney as the execution team needled around in several locations to insert two intravenous lines without success, before calling off the execution

I occasionally set a trap in the back yard to catch a critter of some sort messing things up.
Raccoons, possums or armadillos usually, and I take them to a park some miles away.
Every so often, I'll catch a skunk.
Well, you can't just walk up to a skunk in a trap and say

"Excuse me Mr. Skunk, I didn't mean to trap you so please don't spray me".

So, I gently cover the trap with a large sheet of plastic.
Then I fill up a 96 gallon trash can full of water.
I swiftly pick up the trap and drop it in the water.
No more skunk problem.

Why can't we do that with these b*stards?

Firing squad would be a lot quicker, cheaper and painless. However it would be tough mentally on the inmate.

If they have gotten to death row and to the execution date, lots of court time, deliberation by judges and juries and appeals have occurred. At that point, death being swift is the only merciful judicial requirement. Even if it is painful, as long as death is swift, it is fine in my book.

If the liberals are too concerned, then dope them up before the execution.

“Make each death row cell air tight, then the condemned can be executed in the cell during the night while they sleep, never knowing which night is their last.”

That’s something I agree with.

The geniuses at the NYT apparently don’t grasp that you need oxygen in your lungs to survive. So much for being “pro-science.”

Why spend time procuring nitrogen when hemp will do?

I don’t understand this. So many people OD why not just overdose them? We certainly know it works.

A liquid nitrogen dip and smashing into little bits would be effective, too.

Many people have died of anoxia, confined spaces, incorrect gas plumbed to a face-mask, and so on.

The few who have been rescued in time report painlessly passing out very suddenly with little to no warning.

The Lefties should love it. This is the preferred method of State murder of “incompatible people” in North Korea.

That’s horrible - they made the classic television show into a reboot of a movie at some point in the recent past!? Disgusting; and I couldn’t watch the whole clip.

“...God’s ultimate judgement...” - Well, He prescribed it in the Bible.
Of course, if one is anti-God and/or anti-Bible it will likely show up in opposition to capital punishment and/or numerous other areas.
If the shoe fits ...

If the idea of execution is to serve as a deterrent to make other, potential, criminals to stop and think before they do something stupid, why the attempt to make the execution “more comfy”?

I have never viewed it as a deterrent but as a way to protect society from people who kill without remorse or conscience. Life in prison means they have nothing to lose by killing other inmates or guards.

Sounds fine, it should save money too. No need to hire a phlebotomist.

Jesus seems to have suggested a different approach to dealing with crimes that the culture considered worthy of death.
