California Sues Oil Giants, Claiming Decades of Deception
The New York Times (via MSN.com) ^ | 16 September 2023 | David Gelles

The state of California sued several of the world's biggest oil companies on Friday, claiming their actions have caused tens of billions of dollars in damage and that they deceived the public by downplaying the risks posed by fossil fuels..."These folks had this information and lied to us...," said California Gov. Gavin Newsom. "It's shameful. It sickens you to your core."

I currently live in California and completely agree the petroleum companies should stop selling all their products here. But I bet though, the Federal government will step in and force them to sell again. It would be nice to see the communist types of this state have to live without for a bit.

I have degrees in science. What is most sad is the journals I once read with absolute confidence years ago as journals that followed scientific principals of research no longer do. I read them today to dispute them as they are no longer scientific journals.

May Scientific America once the greatest of all lay in its squalor of lies. It is sad this is.

LOL! Any of the formerly “prestigious” journals, when referenced, I dismiss almost as fast as I read they were referenced.

I left San Diego in December 2000 for my current location in Pocatello, ID. Toward the end of my time in San Diego, I rented an apartment to clear my house for sale. It was time of rolling blackouts. On one evening blackout, I enjoyed good networking using my UPS to power the DSL modem and WiFi router. My laptop provided lighting the room. Lots of traffic jams around Mira Mesa/Scripps Ranch with the power out. Thankful to be far away from that nonsense.

Electric power rates were soaring at the time. Restaurants closed due to inability to afford the power to run the freezer and kitchen. Gross mismanagement of electrical power distribution and costs. My computer heated the apartment and a box fan in the window supplied the cooling. The airconditioner was never turned on.

My home in Idaho is 3900 sq ft. Very energy efficient. A single log off the wood pile is sufficient to warm the house if we lose electrical power to drive the forced air/nat gas heater. The gas bill this month was $30. Hot water for showers, laundry, dishes. By January, the gas bill will reach $180/month as temps drop as low as -21F. Compensating for the higher gas bill is a water bill that drops very low as lawn watering season ends in October.

You may recall when CA outlawed 50 caliber rifles. In short order, Barratt notified CA that he would no longer sell his 50 CA rifles to any customer in CA...including the government/law enforcement. A bitter pill for CA to swallow. When the government plays A-hole, they deserve the same in kind.

1) Cap all the wells, remove all machinery that runs them.

2) Refuse to sell any refined and non-refined petroleum product in the State.

3) Laugh like hell.

Left unexplained is how they “knew” burning fossil fuels would destroy the climate in the 1950s when we don’t know that now. There have always been scientists that make loony claims.

They deceived the public by downplaying the risks posed by fossil fuels.

Local news in LA had footage of a town with oil and tar seeping into the streets not far from La Brea tar pits some towns north of LA have oil washing into the beaches.

But we don’t want any of that nasty drilling.

known since the 1950s that emissions from their products would dangerously warm the planet.

In the 1970s, the panic-stricken fearmongers were wailing and gnashing their teeth about "The Coming Ice Age" brought on by use of "fossil" fuels.

Warm that globe! Polar bears will thank you. They ought to sue California for suing “Big Oil”.

Polar Bears vs. Newsome

(translated from Polar Bear-ese)

Stop it already! We’re sick of the arctic temperatures and those f@#$ing glaciers! We want to immigrate to California and eat at the French Laundry without wearing a mask! Do they serve raw seal meat there? Sushi, at least? Snails?!

"So pull items derived from “fossil” fuels from further sales in cali. ALL ITEMS."

Well, it may not be a matter of Newsome pulling "all items" derived from fossil fuels, which is about everything. With his socialist/marxist/eco policies and SO many businesses closing and leaving, he may not have to bother.

I am 73 and have lived in California all my life, except for 3 years in Spain while in Navy. I remember the days of CA being the leader in innovation, industry, opportunity, education, et al. Many States followed our example. Now, CA is a one of the leaders in everything that has gone wrong with our Country. No, I can't leave - family obligations.

Good. The oil companies have plenty of good attorneys on hand to mount a strong defense. Let’s see if the climate alarmists have as strong a case as they think. I’ll be interested to see the results of this one.
