I assume you’ve not pulled the chain and evacuated and have decided to stay put?

LOL! No. I would hope not. But living in mid-Atlantic and having experienced some nasty Nor’easter Blizzards, thunder snow is pretty cool.

“I’m hoping my 5th wheel survives but if it doesn’t, it’s fully insured for replacement value..”

Expect to get about 80% of what you need. Not bad just be prepared to spend some $$.
The 5th wheel may get no damage.
Seen that happen with Harvey, on the other hand they hauled off countless travel trailers.

Idalia isn’t messing around. I’m amazed the NHC forecast holds the storm at hurricane strength when it crosses into GA.

I rode through Hurricane Ike. 80 miles inland. At my house the pressure read 970. 90 MPH winds here. I live in an area with lots of pine trees. That night, there were a lot of trees snapping.

Thanks so much for your explanation sounds like the storm has to get closer to the Atlantic side before it makes sense to try and figure where it goes next.

I will stay tuned,(that's my line after 20 years of talk radio—lol) some of this stuff is over my head. Especially, when you get into complex steering currents. Just too many variables.

Will AI ever play a part in forecasting or is it already?

And, thanks again for posting here.
It's clear we have a great leader. She's had years of experience doing this. I doubt anyone else could equal her expertise in keeping it all together.

And, experts like yourself are the crowning touch.

You are right on both counts, FRiend... NN puts an incredible amount of effort into these threads, while frequently under the gun herself with respect to oncoming storms... and I always enjoy reading alancarp’s insights into the storms...

agreed.
Hubby and I read that a bit earlier this afternoon and had to swallow, and blink.
Idalia is looking like a force to be reconned with.

Prayers up.

yep...here we go with the histronics....supposedly the SST is like 900 degrees...which automatically means winds of 5000 M.P.H...storm surge 80 stories tall...

That got me too. An inland storm still a hurricane, pretty rare Id say. Has to be associated with a strong fast forward speed, that could make the difference.

Yeppers. Rapid forward speed reduces wind decay.

For sure and you can bet NN is the reason he’s here. This guy is the real deal. He wouldn’t fool with anyone who isn’t first class. NN knows here stuff. She learned through hours and hours of intense storm after storm dissection along with input from the best of the best drawn to this thread.

No, these are not “histrionics.” It is OFFICIALLY a major hurricane. Already a Cat 2.

I will come back later to check on you.

Hurricane Hunters found #Idalia’s pressure has plunged into the 960s.

Back in my day, we used InHg - and we liked it!

The big Cleveland Blizzard of 1978 had a barometric pressure that dipped to 28.28 InHg, the equivalent of about 957 millibars. It remains the lowest recorded barometric pressure ever in Ohio. Wind gusts in that event registered up to 82 mph at Cleveland Hopkins Airport, and wind chills were 60 below 0.

Needless to say, when the barometer drops like its doing in Idalia, it's NOT good news.

I remember 1989 Hurricane Hugo made landfall in Charleston, SC. The next morning, I turned on the news to hear, "The eye of Hurricane Hugo is over Charlotte, NC."

Charlotte is more than 200 miles from Charleston. Hugo was still a hurricane. Crazy.
