Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday defended his remark over the weekend urging Republicans against being “listless vessels” who support former President Donald Trump.
In a Florida Standard interview last week, DeSantis, who is running a distant second to Trump in polls for the GOP presidential nomination, said the conservative movement shouldn’t be centered around loyalty to Trump. “[I]f you’re not rooted in principle, if all we are is listless vessels that are just supposed to follow whatever happens to come down the pike on Truth Social every morning, that’s not going to be a durable movement,” he said.
DeSantis’ comments drew swift criticism from the Trump campaign, with senior adviser Jason Miller comparing it to a comment then-Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made during the 2016 race, when she said half of Trump's supporters belong in a “basket of deplorables.”
“Looks like Ron DeSanctimonious just had his ‘Basket of Deplorables’ moment. Not good!” Miller wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Just we were deplorables with Clinton.
If you listen to his entire remark, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. There are a portion of supporters that like Obama Kool-Aid drinkers will support him regardless of his positions, without thinking.
His Ukrainian troll Spox Christina Pushaw tried to spin this and say he was taken out of context. We all know what Meatball meant, totally in the iron grip of the GOPe.

Trump himself has said they would support him if he shot someone in 5th avenue.
I think he made that comment out of anger that his campaign is failing. Basically that was the end of DeSantis. Hopefully he exits the race now and comes back in 2028.
This a-hole, whom I used to champion as an excellent governor, has just blown, not only 2024, but any hopes of 2028. FRD!

He really got under some people’s skin with that little wisecrack. In politics, sometimes just getting a fresh wave of attention becomes it’s own reward.
The worst thing is if you are completely forgotten, or seen as a non-factor, the way many now see Mike Pence to be.
Pretty much spot on. I'm trying to think of what people would say about DeSantis announced he had a "big heart" for "Dreamers" and he wanted more H1B visas. He'd be polling around Asa Hutchinson.
The kid from Florida has a bad hand of cards, but isn’t backing down, which will lead to a horrific defeat in the Republican Primary Elections.

“This should be a fun Primary.”
DeSantis trying to explain his calling Trump supporters “listless vessels,” is as useless as McCain trying to explain his calling Trump supporters “crazies,” as “term of endearment.”
He’d be polling around Asa Hutchinson.

So that reality show guy (Trump who used to be on the Apprentice) made a brief foray into politics in 2015 as a publicity stunt and then faded away. No chance he would command a yuge lead over all the GOP candidates today. Oh, wait.
