Apparently for years this guy was taking pay for a service that he was not willing to give. Sue him for breech of contract

His actions were not criminal, per the law. This was a CRIMINAL case, not a CIVIL case (which, I believe, is in the works).
Several witnesses testified they had no idea where the shots were coming from, though many of those said they THOUGHT the shots were coming from OUTSIDE the building, not inside.
Which is what the defendant had said.
It’s a sad case. But the jury came to the right decision for a CRIMINAL case.

Our criminal justice system exists in large measure to dissuade victims from “self-help”: exacting private revenge. Now that this fool has been exonerated, we should not be surprised if the parent of a dead child acts. One wonders whether jurors considered that.
