By the close of June, the Supreme Court will almost certainly end affirmative action in college admissions. For Edward Blum, who spearheaded the lawsuits against the University of North Carolina and Harvard—claiming the schools’ race-conscious policies admit unqualified Black and Hispanic students, while “intentionally discriminating” against deserving Asian American applicants—the verdict would fulfill a decades-long quest.
In 1992, Blum, who is white, lost his only political run, failing to unseat the Black Democratic incumbent in a majority-Black Houston congressional district that had never elected a Republican. Blum sued Texas, citing racial gerrymandering, and eventually won the case in the US Supreme Court in 1996. By the late 1990s, he had quit his day job as a stockbroker to focus on overturning racial equality legislation.
Since then, Blum has made a career of recruiting plaintiffs to challenge civil rights he opposes. His wins include Shelby County v. Holder in 2013, which nullified key provisions of the Voting Rights Act. Less successful was Fisher v. University of Texas, decided in 2016, his first attempt to have the court undo affirmative action, in which his handpicked plaintiff was a white woman.
After losing Fisher, Blum changed his strategy, announcing that his new litigation vehicle, Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA), “needed Asian plaintiffs.” Critics cite that admission as evidence that Blum is using Asian Americans not only to refute accusations that he is driven by white resentment, but also to weaponize the “model minority” myth for his own white supremacist ends.

Colleges will just find a proxy for race. The university of California already has. They give preference to “first gen” (parents have no college degree) and/or low income. 40% of UC is now first Gen. Still have to have great grades and lots of AP classes for the top UCs, however.

If you think about it, it makes sense here in the state of Texas you must show an ID so guess what?….an ID they will get.
Straight, white males are the only people it is legal to discriminate against, and discrimination against them is required by law.
Imagine the screaming and rending of garments if SCOTUS strikes this down. Will make the reaction to Dobbs seem like a garden party.

Affirmative action is the exact opposite of “equality legislation”
There is also a big education and income gap between those whose cultures and values affirm education and income and those who do not. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out which ones are white, brown, beige, yellow, or black, and which ones have crosses, shields of David, or turbans or yarmulkes or hijab as cultural markers, but as I learned in Montessori school, it’s what’s inside the skin that counts. I figure I’ll stick to that, even if it makes me a radical of some kind.
Repeal of unconstitutional, judicially imposed race-based favoritism will go far beyond college admissions.
For instance, the military comes to mind.
Affirmative action is systemic racism.

The immigration ruling last week was to soften the blow in eliminating affirmative action.
