Gun control, forest fire control, are they equivalent?
Over the last week or so many local eastern New England weather forecasts have featured comments like “we may see hazy skies caused by smoke from forest fires in eastern Canada”.
A few years ago, there were forest fires in Quebec. You could smell the smoke well into southern Massachusetts.

My son lives in Dartmouth about 20 miles from the Tantallon fire, and he sent pictures from his apartment window of the smoke basically filling the western sky. I’ve seen bad wildfires in the dry season here in central FL causing un-see-througb smog, but this looks worse.
Hope all goes well for your son. Here in New Mexico fire is about the only thing that is truly destructive. Nova Scotia is a beautiful place, I spent some time in Lunenburg back in the 70’s.
Yes, bans on guns are done by the same control freaks as bans on logging and burning debris. When there are huge out-of-control fires they use their failure to grab even more control (e.g. blame global warming instead of their failed burn bans). With guns they blame gun owners and ban even more guns.
Yes,I think I heard Quebec mentioned in at least one report. Quebec certainly has an abundance of forests. Every time I’ve driven I-91 south from the Canadian border toward Connecticut I’ve been passed by dozens of huge logging trucks with Quebec plates.
Alberta? Yikes! That’s a long way.
When I lived in Fort Lauderdale, I thought the entire population of Quebec was there, judging from the license plates.
I like Sarasota in January and it seems that half the cars have Ontario or Quebec plates.
