Doug Mastriano, the far-right state senator who was blown out in Pennsylvania's gubernatorial contest last fall, announced Thursday that he will not run for Senate in 2024.
"At this time we have decided not to run for Senate, but to continue to serve in Harrisburg," Mastriano said in a video posted on Facebook Thursday.
"So I know for some, that’ll be disappointing. For others, it won’t be disappointing, because you’re like, ‘Who’s going to fill his seat? Who’s going to be our voice in Harrisburg?’ … Whoever is that nominee, I will support them," he added.
Mastriano had been openly considering a Senate bid, much to the consternation of some party leaders who didn't want a repeat of the losses in 2022.
Republicans are trying to knock off Sen. Bob Casey, whose re-election bid in the battleground state will play a key role in Democrats' effort to keep their slim majority in the Senate next year.

Whomever wins the GOP nomination will have to overcome an automatic 500000 democrat mail-in vote lead. I do not see anyone in Pennsylvania beating Casey Jr except maybe another Rat.
PA is the only state in recorded history to send TWO mental retards to the senate.
He wouldn’t be running against Fetterman. It’s Casey’s seat.
Actually he’s quite a good man and unfortunately good men don’t do well in politics. The democrats are filth and that includes the democrats who call themselves republican.
The country, like a hopeless alcoholic, has to hit bottom before they can accept good men who love their country.

Mastriano was a terrible candidate, very aloof and distant even from his supporters.
If they brush you off when courting the vote,
you know they won't give you the time of day after being elected.

Bob Casey is darn near unbeatable in PA, even without the voter fraud. He’s a worthless lump, but he’s got powerful name recognition. Kinda like the name “Kennedy” was in Massachusetts.
The two biggest lumps in the US Senate are now from the same state, Pennsylvania. Casey and Fetterman.
But don’t be too quick to blame PA voters entirely. Casey’s got that name recognition. And Fetterman’s opponent (Oz) was a mess, all wrong for the state.
But it wouldn’t be Fetterman, as your post implies.

Would he be a better Senator than the last 10 or so elected from Penn. rather than can he win.

Mastriano isn’t running. Neither is Barnette. Who will carry the conservative banner?
His 2022 campaign for governor came across as a textbook case of amateurish ineptitude.
Lurch Fetterman is in his 50s. I'd hate to see what kind of 40-something year-old mutant would crawl out from under a rock to run in a statewide race.
There must be someone in a nursing home or rehab that the folks in PA can serve up.
