A man is dead and a woman was taken to the hospital after they were shot while allegedly trying to steal a truck from a hotel in Lynnwood early Tuesday morning.

According to the Lynnwood Police Department (LPD), officers responded to the Best Western Alderwood around 2:35 a.m. Tuesday after a man in his late 20s called 911 saying he shot a man and a woman who were “in the act of stealing his truck” in the parking lot. The hotel is located on the 19300 block of 36th Avenue West, which is a couple blocks north of the Lynnwood Event Center.

The man reportedly shot at the pair while they were in his truck. The truck then rolled into the corner of a nearby business.

From the article:
When asked what the public should do if they see someone stealing their vehicle or property, Fagan said “it’s safer to call 911 and let police respond,” adding that “you don’t know what other people are willing to do.”

Evidently the truck owner wasn't willing to let his truck be stolen.

Well, good he stopped the crime in progress, hope he can show he shot in self-defense. At least one of the two criminals won’t be preying upon people again. The other, I hope she has a long, life long, time in jail.

If the stolen truck was heading right at the owner, he’s probably okay (depending on the DA). Otherwise, he’s in trouble. And his legal fees will probably end up being way more than the cost of the truck.

WA state has a no pursuit law. Chances are good they wouldn’t respond to the call at all, and if they did they can’t pursue th thieves and the truck. They’d nicely take down the info and he’d never see his truck again. But now he’ll be up for a murder, and attempted murder charges. The consequences of a lawless society.

“Let the police respond”….. how long does that take? Or do the police just fill out forms the next day….

A long time ago, my 1963 tricked-out Chevy Impala coupe was stolen in San Francisco. Called the cops, filled out a form, and waited. A couple days later, a friend working for the police department told me he saw my car towed into the police impound lot, intact with the wheels and all. So I went to the police station and asked, they then told me it was found (only after I asked), and I got a release form.

At the police impound lot, the employees told me I would need a flatbed trailer to take my car, that it was stripped of wheels and engine parts. I told them that I had proof it was brought in intact, that I would be back later in the day, and all parts better be restored or I would be contacting the DA's office about them.

Came back late in the day, all the parts were back on the car. Do not trust the cops!

Well, to defend the Lynnwood cops (with whom I am quite familiar), they would have been at that hotel, in force, within two minutes, and they would have been real serious about hunting down that stolen truck ASAP. Lynnwood, WA is not Chicago.

Looked to see what state the town was located in ... probably screwed as the state is Washington State, a vassal state of California.
