Fine.
One dollar, in this case, would be the same as $14 trillion.
By establishing a legislative standard that white people owe living black people money, while quibbling about the price, you have already surrendered - which is exactly what I expect the GOP to do.
Wait up.
I’m a Southerner and up until a generation or two ago, every white person here was democrat.
Now if you’re only talking about CURRENT Southern democrats, okay!
“Black people should stop voting for Democrats” - Ice Cube just went FULL BASED!

But neither the United States nor any state shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.
I read that to mean that anything that had to do with elimination of slavery no one could make a claim on the costs. “Illegal and Void” for the states and the US government for “claim of loss or emancipation of any slave”. It doesn’t just limit it to the Slave Owner. It’s a clean slate, no debt from freeing them. It appears to address any claims against State or Federal Government for freeing the slaves. Reparations break the 14th Amendment, section 4. That’s the Constitution. Hence, UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
I don’t read that to mean just slave owners, I read it to mean everyone. I guess we could just repeal the 13th and 14th Amendment like the Democrats have always wanted.....
You misunderstand. The amendment is establishing that former slave owning states are not owed any money by the federal government over economic losses due to emancipation of slaves. It has nothing to do with reparations.
No, your “implying that”. It doesn’t say that, it says that no one is held economically responsible for freeing the slaves especially the States or Federal government. It NEVER says just slave owner claims.
““Illegal and Void” for the states and the US government for “claim of loss or emancipation of any slave””
Only means that no one can sue the governments for losing their slave assets.
“Repatriation not Reparations.” Send them home and see how well they would have done if they hadn’t been brought to civilization. Go home and be Kwanda the Queen of Kwanda.
Wonder if Biden will get his 10%?
When it comes to paying reparations, I think it should involve only those who are seriously owed the reparations from those who seriously owe them. I am doubting that many of either group are alive today.
I look at it this way. As hard as the work conditions were, would you and your ancestors be better off here or back in the Congo? In my mind, they were done a favor.
So now reparations for slavery is becoming a major campaign issue.
Fixed it.
““Illegal and Void” for the states and the US government for “claim of loss or emancipation of any slave””
“Only means that no one can sue the governments for losing their slave assets.”
I see as saying that no financial burden can be placed on the States or the United States related to the emancipation of the slaves. That door swings both ways, the slaveowners can’t make claims (the intent) and the Slaves (whom previously were property) can’t make claims for their ‘emancipation’. Clearly, in the 1860’s it was directed at preventing ‘slaveowner’ claims but it holds the states and feds free from claims associated with emancipation. Before they were slaves, could not make a claim, and after they could (especially being made equal citizens) but were blocked from suing for damages because they were emancipated.
Current. I grew up in Appomattox VA. Most of my older relatives were Democrats.
