Trump Calls 6-Week Abortion Limit ‘Too Harsh’
PJ Media ^ | 05/15/2023 | Matt Margolis

In an interview published on Monday, former President Trump said that a six-week limit on abortion is excessively strict. If you’re thinking this is a curious position for a Republican presidential candidate to take, I suppose I should offer some context. Trump was specifically referring to Florida’s heartbeat bill, which was recently signed into law by… Gov. Ron DeSantis.

When questioned about Florida’s new abortion regulations in an interview with The Messenger, Trump responded by saying that DeSantis had to make decisions based on his own judgment. Trump also suggested that there were doubts about whether DeSantis fully understood the implications of signing the six-week restriction, as some individuals within the pro-life movement believed it was too severe.

“He has to do what he has to do,” Trump said. “If you look at what DeSantis did, a lot of people don’t even know if he knew what he was doing. But he signed six weeks, and many people within the pro-life movement feel that that was too harsh.”

Who was he referring to? Who knows?

DeSantis signed the six-week abortion ban last month, after having previously signed a 15-week ban a year prior. The new law includes exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother. Trump, however, was unwilling to explain exactly what restrictions he’d support, instead saying he was considering all available options, and touted his role in getting Roe v. Wade overturned.

“For 50 years, they’ve been trying to get rid of Roe v Wade. I was able to do it. Nobody else could have done that but me. And I was able to do it [by nominating] three excellent judges on the [sic] Justices of the Supreme Court. And I was able to do that,” Trump explained. “I’m looking at all alternatives.

Poor Trump. Every good and decent thing DeSantis has done - he has to oppose it.

2022 wasn’t about abortion. But Trump and RINOs will always blame conservatives. To paraphrase Arnold Schwarzenegger, Republicans should only be 5% to the right of Democrats, right?

He’s probably thinking like me, that we should adopt a federalist position up to this next election. Let the states haggle over it... many who opposed Roe v Wade did so for that purpose..

Then he should build an effective ballot harvesting mechanism to at least try to offset the Democrat ballot harvesting machine. Attacking DeSantis from the Left is ridiculous.

I think that is correct, Trump brought the USA back to the Pre Roe V Wade 1973 Decision which invented a legal doctrine to support Roe V Wade, prior to 1973 Abortion was under the control of State Legislatures and Governors, who were accountable to the voters of each of the respective 50 states. Abortion laws reflected what voters in said States wanted, California and New York had Abortion laws that mirrored post Roe V Wade laws imposed on all 50 states, etc.

The best way to deal with abortion is using the 10th Amendment of the Constitution, that which is not under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government are tied to a Constitutional Amendment falls back to the states.

There is no way a Constitutional amendment is going to pass to outlaw abortion or make it the law of the land. You pass a Federal abortion law then the next time the Dems have control they repeal it.

Ban all abortions.

That’s not too strict for the unborn.

That was 2 years after he was kicked out from his office.

You stating he did that is like stating Bush helped because the POS roberts was involved in the court.

Best way to deal with Pretty much everything the Fedzilla does, is to actually let the states handle it.

As usual, Trump’s positions fit neatly with mine. He sees the long picture. Let the states fight it out.

In other news, Donald Trump announced that he has switched parties and is now running for the Democratic nomination.

Who cares? Trump has done more for the pro-life movement than any President in the last 50 years by putting judges on SCOTUS that overturned Roe.

Correctly, he says that abortion is a state issue.

Given how they slavishly follow his every command I was wondering if Trump supporters were going to make the leap from picking Trump over more conservative candidates to picking Trump over conservatism itself. Looks like I got my answer.

I’m not going to throw a ticker tape parade for someone doing the minimum their job requires. Almost any Republican would have nominated justices as or more conservative that the Kavanughs and Barretts Trump picked. GWB nominated justices about as or more conservative than Trump. Even guys like Romney and McCain would have. And its not like Trump rolled up his own sleeves and did the research and went to bat for his own handpicked candidate. He simply went with the candidate that was recommended to him by the Fed Society. If he actually put in the work to find a better candidate than was presented and expected I’d give him more credit. But I have higher standards for my President than to worship him just because he didn’t pick some leftwing crazy as a Republican. We’re in a sorry state if this is what counts as worthy of praise.

A nation that compromises on and negotiates with what is pure evil, is not a country worth saving.
