Trump Can Win (good piece)
The American Mind ^ | 5/9/23 | Dan McCarthy

Posted on 05/10/2023 5:35:41 AM PDT by cotton1706

Conservatives would have to be extremely stupid not to notice that, long before Trump came along, the Republican establishment and the mainstream media had a consensus about how to interpret elections.

Any time a right-wing candidate lost, it was always proof that the Right was unelectable and that candidate was a millstone around the Republican Party’s neck. But any time an establishment candidate lost—like John McCain in 2008 and Mitt Romney in 2012—nobody argued the party was too centrist or that establishment candidates were lead balloons.

When conservatives lost, it meant conservatives were losers. But when less conservative candidates lost, it was not a sign that less conservative candidates were losers. On the contrary: the reliable diagnosis from mainstream pundits and DC professionals was that the establishment Republican’s fatal vulnerability was whatever smidgen of conservatism might have crept into his campaign. The establishment, the dead center, was never to blame.

Conservative Republicans who noticed how that worked before the Trump era should recognize that a very similar pattern obtains today. The only difference is that now the liberal pundits and DC campaign consultants are joined by the professional conservative media in applying the same storyline to Trump.

When a Trump-endorsed candidate loses, Trump is to blame. When an impressionistically Trump-like candidate who isn’t endorsed by Trump loses, Trump is to blame. But when a non-Trumpian candidate loses, the lesson is never that non-Trumpian Republicans have an electability problem.

I think trump will win and then there will be attempts on his life.

There’s just too big of a margin for Ds to win against this year.

Yes, Trump as he is now can win. But he’d BIG if he’d stop the name calling and personal attacks, focus on issues, and cease picking needless fights with conservatives like DeSantis who are with him on most issues but his potential competitors.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Trump win and the Establishment declare that Insurrection was a National Duty.

"America’s leadership class is unpatriotic and incompetent."

Unpatriotic to the point of treasonous, imho.

Incompetent, except in rigging elections, backstabbing, and corruption.

They won’t let Trump win. But if he did win, it would prove without a shadow if a doubt that 2020 was stolen. Voters don’t move back to a candidate they supposedly hate, once they had already moved away from that candidate. This would be a blatant illustration of the 2020 fraud.

This is another reason why they can’t let him back in.

Hers a visual to accompany the article, to put a fine point on it. Trump and DeSantis (it'll be one of these guys) have to answer just ONE question. How are you going to flip 38+ electoral votes?

We NEED Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona or some combo theirin.

And this is against the backdrop of mail-in voting, which isn't going away. And stop whining about fraud...ok, the Dems don't play fair. Neither did the Japanese or Nazis, yet we won WWII.

Don't tell me about fraud.

Don't whine about Dominion.

We won WWII because great men and strategists took Normandy, despite many headwinds.

If Trump or DeSantis cannot tell me how the f they're flipping these states, they don't deserve the nomination.

Parenthetically, conservatives who don't demand these guys come back to LEADERSHIP qualities, forestalling the evaporing essence of America, and a tactical way to winning the EC vote, and instead lap up campaigning idiocy and leftist-like complaining about ballot harvesting, are pawns of the left.

I scanned through the entire article and it simply ASSUMED that Trump REALLY lost in 2020 FAIRLY WITHOUT CHEATING.

Everything the author says is correct ONLY if we assume an election free of corruption and manipulation.

Unfortunately, such was not the case in 2020 or even in 2022.

We should not even assume that 2024 will be any different from the past two election cycles.

this is, in fact, an excellent piece of sort of traditional analysis (ie, in a world where campaigning matters, voting matters).

Problem is, many of us are not sure that world exists.

But even so, this is an excellent analysis.

RE: Don’t tell me about fraud.

So, you honestly believe that 81 million Americans turned out en masse in 2020 to enthusiastically vote for Joe Biden?

No, he did win the last time. The left is cheating and there is no reason to believe that they will not do the same thing in every election on the horizon.

Trying to convince others has been an uphill battle, to say the least!!!
At least I am still alive to see the people finally catching on...

By no means — Trump would be in office but for the fraud. But fraud is more difficult when you win by a bigger margin because you’re not your own worst enemy.

"Trump Can Win (good piece)"

Trump can win and us patriots need to support him with as many new MAGA state and federal lawmakers and governors as we can.

Regular readers of Free Republic can probably pick better new MAGA lawmakers than Trump can. After all, we won't always have Trump.

I agree in principal, but, This go around trump has an organized republican opposition. In PA that created a 15 point loss for Mastriano. Maybe 10 points were due to Mastriano’s incompetent campaign but a good 5-8 points where pure republican opposition. Can’t overcome that. And yeh you can do the mail in ballot. But as long as the counting is centralized and un-auditable you cannot get enough mail ins to compensate for the extra democrat votes added in the counting process. And you can’t verify the results because the local counters are not even updating the voter database (SURE) system. In the philly suburb counties there are about 20,000 unaccounted for votes, In Philly it is closer to 400,000. Can’t win that way.

We NEED Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona or some combo

Which means it would be quite helpful to have STRONG statewide candidates in those states.
