Last January, when Consumer Product Safety Commission member Richard Trumka Jr. suggested that the entire U.S. could follow the lead of Berkeley, Calif., and ban the use of gas stoves, conservatives lit into the CPSC and Trumka for even suggesting such a thing.
New York Senator Chuck Schumer called suggestions that the government wanted to end the use of gas stoves in residences a “MAGA conspiracy theory.” “Nobody is taking away your gas stove,” he said.
That may be true. But if you like cooking with gas or heating your house with gas, don’t try to relocate. The chances are good that if you want to move to a blue state in the next couple of years, you’re going to be forced to cook with electricity. That’s because it will soon be all the rage in blue states to ban the installation of gas stoves in all new construction.
The movement to rid the planet of gas stoves got a big boost on Wednesday when the New York legislature passed a bill that would ban gas stoves in new residences starting in 2026.
Why? Gas stoves are powered by natural gas — a fossil fuel. There have also been a couple of studies showing that cooking with gas can give your child asthma. Or something.
Steve Everley, writing in National Review in January, covered several flaws in the most recent studies finding serious health impacts from gas stoves. Experimental studies that found links between gas stoves and child asthma used airtight rooms without ventilation. The author of another much-touted meta-analysis finding a link between gas stoves and child asthma said their study “does not assume or estimate a causal relationship.”

They also want to ban gas heating systems, which is pretty darn funny, because their suggested replacement, heat pumps, like air conditioners, use a coolant that they’re also trying to restrict.
Well, duh. Don’t forget you have to be an idiot to be liberal (and a nanny), so if any of their ‘ideas’ were coherent, it would just be a coincidence.
The burning of natural gas produces exactly the same combustion products as does human respiration.
Unfortunately, the deleterious effects of long term adoption of progressive views and watermelon environmentalism creates very stupid people.
Unfortunately the labor force with the needed technical skills to replace them is at about 5% of what is needed. They don't exist.
The government in has decided its policy to deal with this problem is to walk away from it, using climate change and health crisis as their cover story. Put everyone on all electric and "problem solved". The extremely powerful and wealthy will exist on LP storage tanks on site. They need gas for their chefs to prepare the catering to fly on their private jets to the next climate change conference in Bali to make more rules to limit your existence.
Exactly- We are already seeing electric prices increase aroudn the nation in anticipation of ‘going green’. and once it ‘becomes law’ the prices will skyrocket and people like biden will trot out to the cameras and tell the public “We all must do our part to save the earth even if it is financially painful”
TRUE! And prior to the industrial revolution the CO2 level wasn't much above that extinction level and had been trading downwards for eons. The culprit was living, but not humans. Coral and other marine life were sequestering CO2 from the air into rocks either when alive or when subsequently fossilized. Earth would have died but for Man coming along to recycle fossilized carbon back into the air and save the day!
“”The extremely powerful and wealthy will exist on LP storage tanks on site.””
Last year Obama had 3 LP storage tanks installed at his Martha Vineyard estate. All 3 total 2,500 gal. When the local solar / wind power fails, he will have plenty of power. Will he share it with his neighbors? Doubtful. Remember Rush pointing out the Hut Sweet Hut where Obama’s brother lived. Someone probably, eventually helped the brother.
“Nobody is taking away your gas stove,”
I’ve heard that song and dance before in 1962!
“WE don’t want to take your guns away! WE ONLY want to register handguns! Rifles and shotguns will not be affected!”
Because you can not do mass home pressure canning without a gas stove. Not in any quantity on electric coil or glass top (4 quarts being the maximum) and not at all on inductions. For a comparison you can pressure can 41 quarts on a gas stove.
Take away people's ability to put up and preserve their own food and you control the food. Control the food and you control people.
Look, it’s going to be much easier to control you if we can shut off the electricity—which will be rationed because there won’t be enough—and you’ll just have to do without food. Is that so hard?
My gas stove identifies as electric.
I never even thought of that.
I do canning outside with a propane tank and one of those turkey fryer stoves. Works pretty good.
Anyone else remember how CA mandated low flow toilets and how it was going to save us water?
Yea that didn’t end well.
‘Earlier studies’ measured air quality from cooking with gas and drew wholly unscientific conclusions, as similar results would have been measured by cooking with electric (oil & smoke byproducts).
As with ‘climate change’, asking whether gas stoves, too, is an IQ test (rather, a “DUMBASS TEST”).
But I reserve the worst form of punishment for bureaucrats & politicians who would intentionally use defective/biased research to ban a method of cooking. They would be more honest to suggest banning deep frying (never happen).
Such people, ironically, deserve to be immersed in hot oil.
Wonder how long before propane burners are outlawed.
And then what are they going to do with the gas from land fills? Just let it go into the air?
Some of the new “green” refrigerants are flammable, too.
My gas fired stove, furnace and generator identify as solar powered so I’m good.
if my refrigerator says “lo siento, no hablo inglés”, I’m moving lol
