VAfortbelvoir1

Fort Belvoir is a United States Army installation in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. It was developed on the site of the former Belvoir plantation, seat of the prominent Fairfax family for whom Fairfax County was named. It was known as Camp A. A. Humphreys from 1917 to 1935 and Fort Belvoir afterward.

Fort Belvoir is home to a number of significant United States military organizations. With nearly twice as many workers as The Pentagon, Fort Belvoir is the largest employer in Fairfax County. Fort Belvoir comprises three geographically distinct areas: main base, Davison Army Airfield, and Fort Belvoir North.

Ah, Fort Belvoir. That was the closest base to us when I was in high school. Dad was stationed at the Pentagon and Belvoir is where we went to the Commissary and Exchange. We ate at the Officers Club many times, went swimming at the pool also many times (until they got our subdivision one built and open.) DeWitt hospital is where we went for injuries or illnesses. I had my physical there for my first job - a part time fast-food gig at 16. Got my first contact lenses there.

Lots of Fort Belvoir memories.

Thank you for the thread and thank you for all that you do!

What great childhood memories. I’ve never been there, but I’ll bet the grounds were immaculate and lovely.
