Even more than that, DeSantis has the benefit of a solidly conservative, populist Republican legislature and the accomplishments of Governor Rick Scott, his immediate predecessor to build on. Scott, a wealthy and hard charging businessman, was an exemplary governor and left Florida state government well-administered and in excellent financial shape. Scott is now one of Florida's US Senators and an antagonist to Mitch McConnell.
