SAN FRANCISCO -- A man stabbed to death early Tuesday morning near downtown San Francisco was well-known tech executive Bob Lee, founder of Cash App and the former chief technology officer of Square, sources told KPIX.
Officers responded at about 2:35 a.m. to a report of a stabbing in the 300 block of Main Street in the city's Rincon Hill neighborhood and arrived to find the victim, who was taken to a hospital and succumbed to his injuries there, police said.
The city's medical examiner's office had not yet identified the victim as of Tuesday evening, but friends of Lee told KPIX he was the victim. The 43-year-old Lee was the Chief Product Officer of San Francisco-based cryptocurrency startup MobileCoin.

Just 9 days ago, I had dinner 2 blocks from the site of the crime.
Stay safe and don’t go back to that restaurant— or to that friend’s house.
Thirty years ago, I worked for Fireman’s Fund three blocks away from there. At that time, it was a good area. But SF has gone downhill and I wonder if they’re any safe places left.
Several articles said he was in a nice part of San Fran but so was Paul Pelosi.
SF must rnact hammer and knife control.
Did the stabber have flowers in his hair?
There are pricey high-rise condos in that Rincon Hill neighborhood, but it’s nowhere near (geographically or economically) the “gold coast” of Pacific Heights where the Pelosis, Feinstein, Gettys, Larry Ellison et al. live or lived
Did the stabber have flowers in his hair?
.....one of the eulogies said..he was a “rad dad”....clue to his list of “acquaintances”? If one has enemies, don’t hang out in sf...they can kill you under cover of the lawlessness of the city...
I lived in a garden apartment on California St. between Webster & Buchanan for about 6 months in 1979. I didn’t realize it was such a hoity-toity area at the time. I remember not being able to find a place to park when Dianne Feinstein’s daughter got married at the synagogue down the street. Many fond memories of living in the City, but I’m glad I left when I did.
= most likely black
I thought all the rain and snow in the Sierras and all would wash the shitz out to sea. Guess not. San Andrea’s fault is the only hope. What a shame.
Interesting that the DiFi daughter got married at Sherith Israel rather than the somewhat tonier Temple Emanuel out on Arguello. Makes sense, though, as my understanding is that Sherith Israel historically catered more to Eastern European Jews (of which Polish/Russian DiFi is one), while Temple Emanuel had the Bavarian Jews such as the Levi Strauss crowd
Why would anybody go to that filthy place in 2023?
We all know he’ll vote Democrat now, but how did he vote before he was stabbed to death?
Nothing good happens after midnight.
What an idiot being out at that hour.
I’ve been to 7-8 Bar and Bat Mitzvahs at Sherith Israel - the kids had a lot of Jewish friends. I guess all those people were of the lesser sorts of Jews? In some cases I suppose it figures.
It must have been something like their parish church.
Never once at such a function at Emanuel, but I was there once for a wedding.
