The woman (Rita Bellew) whose racist rant in a Montgomery County pizza shop went viral was charged with ethnic intimidation and harassment Friday, according to the Hatboro Police Department......Bellew’s case is being prosecuted in Montgomery County by Assistant District Attorney Tanner Beck, per the release from Hatboro police.

Police watched the video later. IMO, most likely, the profanity, the obscene gestures, the in-your-face yelling, and the threat to have him kicked out of town did her in.
I know nothing about “ethnic intimidation” law in PA, but some websites say it’s a 3rd degree misdemeanor. Again, I don’t think she should go to jail. But, people should be able to work and do business in peace without harassment.
The gentleman in question was about as “Spanish” as a Jamaican is “English” but this woman was still a twat. If a person is so triggered by a European language like Spanish I would love to see what Karen would do in my neighborhood where you hear more Hindi and Mandarin than English.

But the charge wasn’t disturbing the peace. I could see that. The charge was some bullschit “ethnic intimidation” nonsense. If she went on a drunken ramble about, say, the price of her pizza, nothing would have been done. She may have been removed from the store but it’s highly, extremely highly unlikely charges would have been filed. But she didn’t do that. She mentioned a taboo topic in this age of the snowflake. In other words, it was a thought crime.
I am not defending her. I am opposing the government’s ability to charge and fine people for voicing an opinion.
I looked up the ethnic intimidation law in PA. If I understand it correctly, it only applies when someone has been charged with another crime (in this case, harassment). Then, it’s added to the charge. So, in theory, if she’d merely expressed her opinion about Spanish TV and the Spanish language, she wouldn’t have been charged with ethnic intimidation. Of course, that’s only the way it would work IN THEORY. I don’t know how it would work in reality. I’m not a fan of “hate crime” legislation, either - because aren’t all crimes hateful? - but it’s the law there, and she really messed up.
That’s the problem- it’s the law in PA. It’s a bad, fascistic law.
