Those prices quoted are no where near real life at a scrap yard. MAYBE wires will get about $3 a pound but probably not even $2 because a scrap yard will NEVER pay the advertised price. Recycling metal for me (fab and machine shop) costs more than it is worth by the time I drive it out to the scrap yard. It all goes in the trash.
That being said... Liberal utopias are fun to watch crash down. It is sad though, it destroys so much.
They also have a machine that strips the casings off of Romex wire. Then it chops it up into little pieces about 1/8” long and blows it into cardboard bins. Until the bins get up to 4000 pounds. Sixteen of these bins go on a maxi flatbed to a copper smelting plant in OR. 64,000 pounds of copper = $160,000 currently.
