Movie Theater Cinemapolis Launches “Masked Tuesdays”
Ithaca Times ^ | January 26, 2023 | Staff Report

Posted on 01/27/2023 4:36:01 AM PST by Behind Liberal Lines

Tuesday, January 31st, Cinemapolis will begin offering “Masked Tuesdays.” The theater will start offering a day when all staff and moviegoers will wear masks. This is an effort to make moviegoing accessible for people who feel safest and most comfortable in a fully masked environment.

On “Masked Tuesdays,” Cinemapolis will not offer typical concession sales. Candy and baked goods will be available for purchase to take home, but the theater will not sell concessions to eat during the movie in order to encourage consistent masking on these days.

The theater uses a HEPA air filtration system to maximize safety at all times, and moviegoers are welcome to wear a mask at any screening. “Masked Tuesdays” will be a way to welcome people who prefer theater-wide masking.

Some people have health issues, and they are more comfortable wearing masks and being around people that do. People with cancer, for example.

If that’s what they prefer, then fine.

Meh. Most people in masks these days are ridiculous hypochondriacs.

Smells of desperation in light of recent events.

From a few days ago, on another local cinema...

Many people go to the movies to get out, and to share an experience; some like the whole movie popcorn aspect of it.

In an era of high quality home theatres, why go to the movies when you aren’t allowed to breathe or interact normally with the people around you, or even eat popcorn?

Why go to the movies when there’s nothing you want to see...?

This is great for people that want to conceal their identity.

The covid mask is the best invention for criminals since the Saturday night special.

So you walk into the theater on a Tuesday, and just as the movie is about to start, yell, “Hey Karen, call home right away! It’s an emergency!” Just to see how many people get up or just call from their cell right where they are sitting.

If I lived around there, I just wouldn’t go to a movie on a Tuesday. Of course, the last time I was in a movie theater was to see Independence Day in 1996, so I wouldn’t be going on any other day of the week either.

Bet the staff calls in more frequently on Tuesdays now.

“From a few days ago, on another local cinema”

probably because they didn’t have masking mandates ... either that or because modern movies are so unwatchable that folks would rather stay home and watch old reruns of “The Rifleman” or “Perry Mason” ...

I don’t know (or see) anyone who wears a mask at this point. I do see a lot of chronically ill and immune impaired people on social media angrily demanding that everyone mask up so they can go outside. I have sympathy for their conditions but if they’re wearing an N-95, they’re pretty much protected from germs. They don’t need special days for movie-going.
