I read Newport News, and I didn’t have to look.

BTW, there is a plaque along the waterfront in Newport News that says that half of all troops embarking for Europe during World War II, left from that small port. It might even be true. I was visiting there almost weekly in August 2001. Then things changed.

I always think of Newport News as a coal port: endless Appalachian trains dumping coal, mounds of coal 40 feet high. And of course the collier ships from around the world loading cargo after cargo of this underrated source of energy and world prosperity: coal to light the world.
