No, new study does not link gas stoves with asthma in children
Junk Science ^ | Junk Science Staff

Here is the study. The abstract is below.

Here is a quick summary of the some of study’s principle flaws, in no particular order:

It’s not actual research on children. It is a meta-analysis of previously published (and ignored) studies — a study of otherwise unpersuasive studies. The authors did a literature search for previous epidemiologic studies on gas stoves and asthma in kids and then just mixed those results together in an effort to contrive statistical significance. This is a bogus technique for a number of reasons including publications bias in the component studies — i.e., studies with null results aren’t published. The study results, including the component studies, are weak statistical associations — i.e., noise range correlations. The study results, likely including the component studies, are not statistically significant either. Asthma is an allergic disease.

There are no allergens in natural gas.

So the study has no biological plausibility.

No one knows what causes asthma in children and so competing causes could not be ruled out.

The claim that gas stoves are responsible for 12% of childhood asthma – an epidemioogic concept called “attributable risk” – is entirely bogus because epidemiological studies can only be used to associated exposures with disease. They cannot be used to determine risk of disease because (1) the underlying data is not representative of the population; and (2) epidemiologic studies cannot be used by themselves to determine cause-and-effect relationships.

If none of that means anything to you. you need to read “Junk Science Judo: Self-defense Against health Scare and Scams.”

They want to ban gas stoves.

It’s crazy.

Still, one pot of oatmeal heated on a gas range could cause yet another extinction of a species somewhere on the planet due to climate change. Something to think about.🐂🦏🦛🐘

This is the first analysis of any kind I’ve seen. When I saw the headlines in recent days I figured it was a phony buttress to the Greens’ current suicidal obsession of abandoning use of natural gas

Natural gas (or LPG) combustion in air releases CO2 and water. Doesn't get hot enough to release any nitrogen oxides.

Oh yeah, they've classified water vapor as a pollutant.

AND gas heating furnaces, too.

It is utterly insane. Nobody is asking for this. They conduct bogus "research," reach false conclusions, don't give a damn, and ram it down our throats.

Barack Obama October 30, 2008: “We’re five days away from the fundamental transformation of the United States.”

Obama: Transforming America
By Victor Davis Hanson, October 1, 2013.

Energy. Before Obama, natural gas and nuclear power were seen as preferable alternatives to oil and coal. If new restrictions on reactors and a de facto end to the new federal leasing of land for oil and gas exploration are any indication, neither energy source is now acceptable. Had Obama opened up federal lands for fracking and horizontal drilling, built the Keystone Pipeline, and encouraged natural gas as a transportation tool, power bills would not have climbed and gasoline prices would not have doubled. The U.S. would have enjoyed an even brighter energy future than what private enterprise alone has provided.

Obama’s view of energy — whether we cite former energy secretary Steven Chu’s lunacy on the desirability of raising U.S. gasoline prices to European levels, or candidate Obama’s own promises to bankrupt coal companies — is elitist to the core. His signature energy achievement is to change the terms of the debate: The chief energy issues for the Obama administration are not national security, not energy independence, not greater competitiveness for American business, not savings for the American consumer, and not jobs. Instead, whether a fuel might heat the atmosphere seems the sole concern.

There's no doubt we are in Obama's third term. They've been working to destroy American since January 2009.

I honestly cannot believe they are going after natural gas fired stoves and furnaces using the bogus pretext of "health." In a sane world, this would boomerang on them and they would be thrown out of government for the next 200 years.

Thanks for posting.

When first heard potential ban, within an hour Chicago Tribune sent out an article about natural gas causing asthma.

Propaganda at its best.

Problem is lie goes around the world before the truth is printed :(

I think they plan to go past stove ban...Likely the endgame is to ban natural gas heating...

Exactly!

It’s so transparent it’s just juvenile.

Here comes the “it’s the science” again.

We’ll see how our side pushes back.

My gas bill for the month is $116.00.

It’s generally about $17.00.

It was cold and I used more gas, but I’m interested to see
how high the bill will wind up when I’m back to not using
it.

They say it’s supposed to double or triple in cost. If
that’s true, you’ll have a lot of people calling in to
have them turn off the gas. Mission accomplished.

My home has a gas oven and stove top.

I also have a gas central heating system.

What they are doing is just insane.

I got the feeling Monday that an all points bulletin went to every liberal politician and news outlet to play this up.

It seemed too coincidental to me that essentially the same news story and demand for new government regs would break GLOBALLY on the same day.
