‘Too lazy, too fat, too stupid’: Home Depot founder slams workers in modern economy

The billionaire co-founder of Home Depot is slamming what he says is a poor work ethic among laborers today, claiming that “nobody gives a damn” about job performance in the present-day economy.

“'Nobody works. Nobody gives a damn,” Bernie Marcus told the Financial Times in an interview this week.

In a jeremiad against what he claimed were insufficiently motivated workers, Marcus mimicked them: "Just give it to me. Send me money. I don’t want to work - I’m too lazy, I’m too fat, I’m too stupid."

The business tycoon claimed to the Times that his highly successful hardware chain would never realize the same level of growth and popularity in the modern economy.

“We would end up with 15, 16 stores,” he said. “I don’t know that we could go further.

I agree with him fully.

I have had a number of different jobs in my lifetime-—but I always worked.

I assembled air diffusion units in a factory...

I worked in a tire store—dismounting/remounting & balancing tires...

I sold auto parts & body shop supplies and delivered parts in & back from the machine shop on my commute...454 heads are HEAVY !!!!!

I worked in a machine shop grinding & polishing cylinder heads for better performance—night job after selling auto parts...

I worked as a grocery cashier...took every shift I could on a holiday, etc...triple time pay...

I worked in a night club-—night job after all day in an office...NOT a nice part of Milwaukee at night..

I worked a number of office jobs-—mostly doing accounting

I started at age 17 & am now 83.

Last accounting client retired this spring-—I did his books for 53 years....

I see an entire 40 year group of “UNEMPLOYABLES” and it isn’t going to help our future.

I see self-indulgent pampered brats who think the world owes them something.

I would not hire a single one of them....

Not even to water my horses or clean water tanks....

That’s an opportunity. Recognition to the snowflakes who self-organize to simply clean up after themselves.

For a skilled tradesman, you’re correct.
For a high school kid, no.

Yes, this is why I am sure the GOP will one day be the dominant worker's party. Their slogans are

"Jobs American won't do" and " Americans are to fat and lazy to work"

Yes!! that certainly is the winning platform!!! Yes, we can!!!

America needs to re-read “Atlas Shrugged “.

I'd also recommend Ro ert Heinlein's "The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress."

Homo Depot is a ChiCom store front. They bribed officials to stay open during COVID.

AGAIN: MUSK DID NOT FIRE ANY JANITORS.

NONE of those janitors were on Musk’s PAYROLL.

MUSK did NOT sign their paychecks.

They worked for a cleaning company that provided cleaning services for MUSK.

MUSK cut down the TWITTER staff at that location-—drastically-—THOSE were MUSK employees.

48 janitors were being used.

That number got cut to 28 after staff reductions of TWITTER/MUSK employees.

When MUSK leaves Calif completely—the new number will be ZERO. HE has a right to have his business wherever he wishes-—and HE WILL LEAVE CALIF.

Janitors (SEIU) were pissed.

They tried to sue MUSK——MUSK was NOT their employer of record.

That lawsuit went nowhere.

Then they tried striking against their real employer-—a cleaning company.

MANY companies that were in the Bay area have left Calif completely. I can imagine that janitors are not needed in EMPTY commercial facilities.

IF many of us get EVs & no longer patronize gas stations-—Do you think for one little minute those gas station employees who were downsized can sue those drivers who switched to EVs????

MEDIA has NEVER reported this correctly.

The overall IQ of today’s media is disgusting. I wouldn’t hire them to stack bales of hay or clean horse pens.

I especially liked the comment about ‘body odor’....

Since when do janitors monitor THAT???

‘Too lazy, too fat, too stupid’: Supporters of Democrats and Establishment Republicans.

These are the useful idiots who are enabling the destruction of the United States.

Most of the people on this thread have no idea what Home Depot pays their employees. The average sales person at Home Depot, not the part-time shelf stocker, makes $119,000 a year. Some make a lot more than that.

According to our local radio station two years ago the average salary at our post office was $82,000 a year, not counting the $$ they steal. The employees there are nasty. So paying more doesn’t guarantee good service. Nowhere is service worse than at the post office.

Too lazy to think!

To fat from a lifetime of indulgence.

Too stupid to understand what's going on.

“Bob stuff it . We don’t need no stinking Mexicans....”

Good Morning!

Actually, I would agree with you, except that our whole economic system has been modified to rely on immigrants doing the real work. So that would also have to dealt with if we were to send them home (that would mean forcing people with liberal arts degrees to do real work, even work that might get their hands dirty once in a while - yuck!!!).

Boycotting is just a form of virtue signaling.

Often threatened, rarely actually done.

Not buying that. Btw, what's a Home Depot sales person? When I go to HD, sales persons do not exist. You can't even find help.
