A well-known Catholic priest and incendiary leader of the anti-abortion movement was removed from the priesthood by the Vatican, according to a letter from Pope Francis’s representative to the United States that was obtained by The New York Times.
Frank Pavone, who leads the advocacy organization Priests for Life, and was once a religious adviser to former President Donald J. Trump, was dismissed from the clergy on Nov. 9 with no possibility of appeal, the letter states. The letter included a statement about the removal, called laicization, that it said was approved by the Dicastery for the Clergy, a Vatican office.
“This action was taken after Father Pavone was found guilty in canonical proceedings of blasphemous communications on social media, and of persistent disobedience of the lawful instructions of his diocesan bishop,” it states.
The letter did not specify those communications or disobedience, or name the diocesan bishop. Mr. Pavone did not reply to a request for comment.
The punishment of a high-profile Catholic anti-abortion activist comes at a precarious moment for the movement as it plans its future after losses in the midterm election and struggles to unify Republicans around the issue. Mr. Pavone’s anti-abortion activism was not cited in the letter as the reason for his dismissal.

I’m sorry, but Catholics like you are part of the reason that the Church is in the desperate state that it’s currently in.
You are missing the point...It’s become open season on all Christians no matter their chosen denomination. It’s the world against Christ’s real bride everywhere and everyone that has God’s Holy Spirit in him or her!
Protestants and Catholics... those who’ve had a true encounter of God’s spirit and has his fire living in side of us, we need to get over our differences; and I don’t mean accepting syncretism or Chrislam!
The blood of the lamb and by the word of our testimony! There is no running from the warfare being thrust upon us!
The righteous people of the Catholic church need to drive the evil priests out and reconstitute the leadership even if it means many won’t agree and if it means some congregations meet in barns and warehouses.
I’m sorry, but Catholics like you are part of the reason that the Church is in the desperate state that it’s currently in.
***************
Are you Catholic, or just another outsider looking in, well, not looking in, listening to angry pastors who subconsciously wish they had 1/100 of what the Church has.
Well put!
BUT....I do get your point.
Who was the Laicized priest that was popular a few years ago on FR who wound up dressing like Rob Halford? I think he was on EWTN.
I’m Catholic. I think that making excuses for the clergy has led us into the catastrophe we now face. Your post seemed to be excusing Francis’ unjust persecution of Fr. Pavone. If I was wrong about that, then I apologize.
I know until the 1500’s depending on where one lived in the world, one learned about Jesus either from the Eastern orthodox churches or the western Roman catholics. The writer of post 2 needs to remember that. After the 1500’s the Orthodox and the roman Catholics still need to remember that Protestants aren’t going away and Christ accepts them as his children too...at least the ones who truly have encountered his spirit and have been washed in his blood.
That is part of what my point is. Christ can and will help us all bridge our differences! We are all in for a lot of surprises...and heartbreaks...but then the joys of his presence in bodies made incorruptible!
I thought you were being dismissive of the Church.
I refer to Frank as the Black pope. Benedict is my Pope.
That clears things up. Thanks, sister in the Faith!
