Wasn’t that the year of the Hong Kong flu made a comeback? I was still in high school then, so I may not remember correctly. So glad your mother took good care of you :)

Wow, that house in Fairhope sounds like a dream! Ah, I wish I could afford one of those historic homes on the waterfront there. Or maybe not. They tend to be huge and I’ve decided small is better. Less to clean and repair, etc. Yes, I’m getting old!

My late husband was offered a promotion back in the 80s that would have landed us in Mobile about two years after we married. I wanted so badly for him to take it, wanted to move there, but he insisted it was too hot down there :(

1976 was the year of the Swine Flu.

Hybrid animal-human flus like that are especially dangerous, they supposedly can provoke cytokine storms. The 1918 flu was one such flu and it’s very high death rate may have been from cytokine storms.

As a result the vaccine was rushed into production and there were suspicions that it could have been causing Guillain-Barre syndrome in about 1,000 people so the vaccine program was halted.
