(NEXSTAR) – One week after the Thanksgiving holiday, and chances are good that you are sniffling, coughing or feeling a little scratch in your throat. It’s not just you – the country is contending with a “tripledemic” of viruses (not to mention, a whole lot of common cold).
As of late November, reported COVID-19 cases in the U.S. were stable, but high. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recorded about 300,000 new cases over the past week, but that number is likely an undercount, as home tests often aren’t reported to public health agencies.
Meanwhile, influenza is rising rapidly and on its way to a peak much earlier than the typical flu season. The CDC’s preliminary count is rough, but the agency believes as many as 14 million have been sickened and up to 8,400 people have died.

Agree, Wife went to World Series and brought it and COVIG back,,,been ages since I have had the Flu,, but this one is bad,, add in COVIG,, which to me is just kinda of pain in the ass,, no taste, tired sleepy,,,, but been rough 3-4 weeks so far. And pretty much everyone in family has had a dose of it.
Garlic does prevent viral infections.

Are you a doctor by chance?? Is the comment you made based on hard scientific evidence?? Or are you just repeating something you read on the Internet..??
When I worked in an office & stayed home (mostly in the house) on weekends, I caught my share of “bugs” in the winter, mostly sore throat/cold combos. Miserable.
Then I took up hiking - I was in the mountains all weekend, hiking both days. Lots of fresh air, COLD air, seemed to really clear things right out. I was rarely sick after that. I also was afflicted with SADS ... being outside all weekend, every weekend (seriously), took care of that. The sunlight was angled steeply and ‘weak’, but just being out in the light was helpful. Bumped up Vit D big time & that helped as well.
The more time outdoors IMO, the healthier I think people tend to be, at least that’s how it is for me. Heather’s signoff on the DarkHorse podcast is “be kind to the ones you love, eat good food, and get outside”. Simple, but effective from my experience.
I learned years ago that my annual holiday colds as a kid were really an allergy to a mold that grows on many of the trees that we bring into our homes at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I always had a stuffy nose, and sometimes got a sinus infection. Now as an adult, I use a fake tree and fake greenery in my home.
I helped my daughter in law hang fresh wreaths and greenery around her house last week, and immediately broke out with a rash where I had handled things. I took some allergy medicine and it disappeared. Crazy how that works.
That’s largely because no one wants to be in close proximity to someone who reeks of garlic. Social distancing of another kind. ;)
I flew from SF to Indiana on Tuesday, and there were people all over the terminal that were coughing and sneezing.

The word to the wise from a helluva of a saxophonist and Family practitioner that I know.
Doc told me that during flu season he does not shop in grocery stores that have a pharmacy.
I’ve taken that advice and for the last seven or eight years I have not had the flu.
Something to keep in mind.

I had the same thing at the same time. Sinuses still plugged and still coughing. No pneumonia though.
People always get sick. It's just that now that's all we focus on as if it is unusual.

Don’t ever touch the basket handles. I take a plastic grocery bag and wrap it on the handle. Works for me.
Not to mention that the shots deplete your immune system, so shit you never got before, you will be more susceptible to now.
