When Trump raised alarms about TikTok in 2020, he was criticized in the media. CNN actually ran a story declaring that the action set a “dangerous precedent for democracy.” Late-night comics also brutally mocked the 45th president, and Trump was also challenged in court.
The concern over TikTok and its China-based owner ByteDance stems from the realities of Beijing’s legal system. China’s national security laws can force foreign and domestic firms operating inside its borders to share their data with the government, raising fears of industrial or personal espionage from apps like TikTok.
ByteDance has denied that the Chinese communist government has access to any data collected by the social media app, insisting that Americans’ user data is stored only in the United States.
Joe Biden vowed to always heed the intelligence community, but promoted TikTok during the midterms as a political strategy, allowing his administration to bring some TikTok workers to the United States on special immigrant visas. Sen. Tom Cotton wrote a letter earlier this month disclosing that the Homeland Security Department approved more than 570 H-1B visas for foreign nationals to work in Chinese parent company ByteDance’s California offices, where they can access sensitive data about U.S. users.
But in July, ByteDance acknowledged that non-U.S. employees did in fact have access to U.S. user data and that it is trying to work with the Biden administration to address concerns about its data privacy policies. “We are confident that we are on a path to fully satisfy all reasonable U.S. national security concerns,” the company said in a statement earlier this month to National Public Radio, effectively admitting that they were not on that path previously, and that the concerns are warranted.
Now the intelligence community is admitting that Trump was on the mark.

Apple prides itself on security.
Instead of worrying about Twitter they need to assure their users that TikTok is safe.
Google is hopeless. But so probably too is Apple.

I read the article waiting for Schumer to be mentioned further, but didn’t see it. So I did a little googling and found two articles specifically about Schumer and TikTok:

Likewise. If Trump stated that the sun sets in the West there are not a few who would deny it.
In addition to being a national security threat, TikTok is addicting our young people to mindless and time-consuming viewing on the Internet.
TikTok uses AI algorithms to send a stream of videos to each person based on their personal interests. Inside China, childrens’s TikTok choices are limited to educational ideas such as home science experiments and patriotic videos. They are limited to 40 minutes per day. TicToc goes off at 10 pm in China.
For the rest of the world, addicting flow-through TicToc videos can be silly dancers or much worse. Car crashes is an example of much worse
“That Schumer gets perpetually elected is proof that intellectually lazy clueless people, and the ideologically blinded, are ubiquitous”
in New York.
Corrected it.
By the way, if anyone here is contemplating an overseas trip which includes a layover in Hong Kong or any Chinese territory, and you have posted comments here or elsewhere that ‘slander’ China in any fashion, you will be hauled off the plane and thrown into prison for crimes against China.
You talked me out of it./s
Trump was right about everything.
Even Canada. A scary world out there.
That’s why they’ll never forgive him.
Your confusion regarding Chuck U’s elections success suggests that you don’t get to New York very often.
Democrats, RINOs, The Deep State and MSM hardly ever.
Used to live in Manhattan. Been awhile.
