What you describe is indeed very common. My own mother, 20 years ago, her thyroid tanked. The doctor just put her on Prozac. After a few weeks, she went back to him demanding that he figure out the real problem. Eventually he did, but he didn’t even apologize for being so dismissive at first. He was just like, “Oh, it’s your thyroid.” He seemed irritated at having to do his job.

[Dr.] was just like, “Oh, it’s your thyroid.” He seemed irritated at having to do his job.

It is one of the most common and least understood diseases out there. It literally robs people of the joy of living, and untreated can bring about much more serious illnesses or death; but the onset symptoms are subtle and look like many other conditions.

It's so common, yet with many variations in individuals; there's really no excuse for doctors not learning more about it, doing the proper tests and developing a good diagnosis and treatment plan.
