Not really. It’s called permanent magnetism. When you move them they pick up induced magnetism.

That is exactly how it works.
On a steel ship there are permanent magnets precisely placed near the magnetic compass to offset the permanent magnetism which the ship incurred during construction.
There are soft iron spheres, precisely placed to the sides of the compass to offset the changing induced magnetism the ship incurs as the ship changes headings.

They don’t need to correct for the induced, they only need to read the permanent magnetism. Correction for induced is for correcting the difference of a magnetic compass in relation to the steel/iron surrounding the compass.
