‘People are just hitting their heads against the wall’: Democrats fret another Johnson win

Tom Nelson can hardly believe it.

In just a matter of two months, Democrats went from expecting to knock off the unpopular GOP incumbent, US Sen. Ron Johnson, to seeing their party’s nominee, Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, scrambling to catch up.

Already, the finger pointing has begun.

“The national party did him a grave disservice by not closing the gap, by not being a stopgap measure in August and September to hit Johnson hard on good, effective negative ads, at the same time building up Mandela,” Nelson, a local county executive from central Wisconsin and former Senate Democratic candidate, told CNN. “The national party has totally failed us, and so it’s gonna come down to Wisconsin Democrats.”

Of possibly seeing Johnson, 67, win a third Senate race, Nelson said, “People are just hitting their heads against the wall. How do we let this happen?”

What’s happening in Wisconsin resembles Democratic struggles across the country. They’ve seen their leads evaporate in key House and Senate races as outside money floods in to hammer Democrats over crime and inflation, while they’ve tried to rail against Republicans over their opposition to abortion rights. In several key battleground states — Georgia, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio and Florida — GOP candidates and groups spent roughly $25 million more than their Democratic counterparts on air in September alone, according to data from AdImpact, which tracks ad spending.

In states like Wisconsin, the outside money has forced Barnes to go on defense, and air several ads accusing Johnson of lying in the attack ads.

Many of his supporters believe that is not enough.

“Oh, I’m terrified,” said Mary Hildebrand, a voter here in this small northern Wisconsin town. “His campaign seems to be faltering,” she said of Barnes.

The Dems are afraid they can’t find enough votes in WI’s nursing homes to defeat Johnson.

I’m a worrywart.

I still worry about a Big Steal in important races.
And I also worry that if the GOP does gain control of House and Senate, that the Executive Branch will go into an overdrive of tyranny and ignore Congress.

$25 across 7 states? For a senate race? While I don’t doubt outside funded negative advertising has its effect, blaming it as the sole reason is disingenuous…..

It’s the economy stupid..

WI has had several court rulings that ensure a lot of the hank panky of 2000 won’t occur there.

Other states like PA the courts were active participants in the steal and little to nothing has been done or will be done

DEMS FEAR EXTINCTION

‘The brand is so toxic’: Dems fear extinction in rural US

John Fetterman, arrives for a campaign stop at the Mechanistic Brewery, in Clarion, Pa., Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022. SMETHPORT, Pa. (AP) — Some Democrats in rural Pennsylvania are afraid to tell you they’re Democrats.

The party’s brand is so toxic in the small towns 100 miles northeast of Pittsburgh that some liberals have removed bumper stickers and yard signs and refuse to acknowledge publicly their party affiliation. These Democrats are used to being outnumbered by the local Republican majority, but as their numbers continue to dwindle, those who remain are feeling increasingly isolated and unwelcome in their own communities.

“The hatred for Democrats is just unbelievable,” said Tim Holohan, an accountant based in rural McKean County who recently encouraged his daughter to get rid of a pro-Joe Biden bumper sticker. “I feel like we’re on the run.”

The climate across rural Pennsylvania is symptomatic of a larger political problem threatening the Democratic Party heading into the November elections. Beyond losing votes in virtually every election since 2008, Democrats have been effectively ostracized from the overwhelmingly white parts of rural America, leaving party leaders with few options to reverse a cultural trend that is redefining the political landscape.

Democrats complaining about “outside money” is hysterical. Stacy Abrams is almost completely funded by residents of California, NY and other liberal enclaves, very little of her money comes from Georgia.

As a supporter of both the Canadian and American trucker convoy, Ron was the only one who held hearing on he vax and injuries. I believe he was the only congressman who attended. Zip on others. It lasted an entire day. Extraordinarily informative. He invited the best of the best in the medical virology field.

Mandela was Nelson’s last name. I was suspicious that Barnes changed his first or middle name to invoke the anti apartheid saint, like Barry changed his name to Barack Hussein. His biography offers no clues.

ps

Mandela was a communist. His wife Winnie necklaced her enemies by hanging a tire full of gas around their neck and setting them on fire.

Packwood (who may have been the most senior Junior Repbulican Senator ever) was known in my family as New York’s third Senator, though I imagine that there have been and are many contenders for that title.

There were many other reasons to despise him, with the fact that he wasn’t Hatfield being at most 5th on the list (that he wasn’t Wayne Morse and that he had defeated Wayen Morse were both definitely higher).

Oddly enough, Hatfield most likely was gay, and Packwood definitely liked women—but Hatfield was discreet, a gentleman, and didn’t let his own moral failing mess with his public moral compass.

“Hitting their heads against a wall . . . .”

Nice visual, but slightly unsatisfying. I hope reality strikes fear and loathing into them, both body and soul.

Wisconsin doesn’t need to send to congress an angry, hard left communist named Mandela that magically turns moderate every election year. We have enough of those.

”People are just hitting their heads against the wall.”

Meaning the media…

Our 4th estate have become experts at stepping on rakes. They don’t seem capable of learning to stop their rapidly accelerating demise…
