When I graduated high school in the early 1970s, there were good full-time jobs everywhere for darn near everybody. Maybe you dropped out of high school. Maybe you just barely graduated with a C- average.

It didn’t matter. The mills were hiring. Factories were hiring. The railroad was hiring.

Those are the jobs I’m talking about. They are just not there anymore for urban black kids who are not college material. Yes, you are correct that companies are look big to bump their minority representation. But they are looking to hire a few college types.

Oh, they’ll hire that decent C- black kid. But it won’t be full-time, and it won’t be at good wages.

One reason I’m so passionate about this is that I taught in an urban high school for decades. I had many good and decent black students who were simply not college material. There was nothing for them after high school. They didn’t have the many choices my generation had.

Trump’s policies would have changed all that. The factories would have come back. It’s a real shame he was derailed.

I’ve noticed the disrespectful driving. There has a been a shift in the culture since Covid and the BLM/Antifa riots.

Government fully and publicly de-legitimized themselves with illegal lockdowns, company shutdowns, eviction moratoriums, etc. and at the same time took a knee to a criminal Communist organization known as Black Lives Matter^TM, all to steal an election.

They supported Communist rioters burning down businesses. They told everyone their votes didn't matter. They told everyone their jobs and school didn't matter.

They told everyone they were going to die... except they didn't and now no one gives a damn.

I see it with younger kids and I don't think it's a bad thing. Step one is lose the outright falsehoods that have been pushed by an illegitimate government and the Propaganda Media for decades. Give the kids time and they'll find their way without getting caught in the sick lies.

I live in an area that was once a great steel mill region. So maybe what I’m seeing is not true elsewhere. But there are literally no good jobs left here for that average kid, black or white or brown.

Sure, the fast food places are hiring. And it’s honorable work. But you won’t be able to rise to the middle class like the mill worker of 50 years ago could.

We were sold out be the globalists of both parties. Instead of making things in our cities, we import them from China. I dunno. Maybe I’m wrong. But I think a country should have a policy that gives that average kid a decent chance. Not just a chance, but a decent chance. Like when I was 18.

Survival of the fittest. These whiners are standing in the way of evolution to a higher form. Imagine how great we will have it then. In my lifetime I have seen nothing less than better by the day. Look how much better off our children and grandchildren are.

The key word is "once". There are places all over the world that no longer support industry that was once there; mines are depleted, harbors are too small, rivers are to shallow and narrow, narrow winding roads over mountain passes aren't as efficient as multi-lane highways on flat land, new technologies supersede the previous ones, etc.

Our ancestors came all the way to America for opportunity. These kids need to get out of these "once was" towns, learn some new skills, and don't look back. Democrats want to keep them on urban reservations but these kids have to open their eyes and their minds.

There are companies hurting for drivers, skilled technicians, and even assemblers but those same companies got out of decayed areas decades ago.

Anyway, you make a VERY good point about having to move. The jobs are no longer here. So young folks need to roll the dice, and look elsewhere.

My concern is about the quantity as well as the quality of the available work. Here’s what I mean. Back in the day, in my region there were tons of well-paying jobs just for the asking. Sure, there are good jobs elsewhere. But can they match the mills, which once employed tens of thousands?

Oh, and one more thing. I’ll be signing off now as there are weeds to pull in my back yard. Those weeds mock me daily. I have enjoyed our conversation. It is a pleasure to exchange ideas without the name-calling too often seen on other threads.
